Mike Tomlin let Bruce Arians go after the 2011 season.Arians had been Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator from 2007–2011. After that season his contract expired and the team did not offer him a new one. The Steelers initially described it as a retirement; Arians later said he was not given a contract and treated it as being let go. Tomlin publicly took responsibility. In March 2012 he said it was his decision and that he “thought that it was time for change.” Some contemporaneous reports suggested team president Art Rooney II may have been involved, but Tomlin stated the call was his. Arians was unhappy at the time and later said he felt betrayed. He quickly joined the Indianapolis Colts as offensive coordinator (and later served as interim head coach). He has since said he was ultimately thankful the Steelers moved on, because it opened the door to his later head-coaching success.

Bruce Arians was hired by Bill Cowher in 2004 as wide receivers coach. When Tomlin took over in 2007, he kept Arians and promoted him to offensive coordinator. Arians was not a Tomlin original hire. Dick LeBeau was first brought in by Cowher in 1992. He left, then returned in 2004 (still under Cowher) as defensive coordinator. Tomlin inherited him in 2007 and kept him through 2014. Tomlin was actually the only 2007 head-coach finalist who planned to retain LeBeau and the 3-4. Both were already established, successful coordinators when Tomlin arrived. They belong more to the Cowher era than to a Tomlin-built staff.That distinction matters for the “coaching tree” criticism. Tomlin’s own later coordinator hires (Todd Haley, Randy Fichtner, Matt Canada, Arthur Smith, Teryl Austin, etc.) produced no NFL head coaches of note. Arians is the main name people cite, but he was already a longtime NFL assistant before Tomlin ever coached him. LeBeau never became a successful head coach (his Bengals tenure was poor).So yes: Arians and LeBeau were good coaches Tomlin inherited, not products of a Tomlin-developed tree.

Tomlin went back and told Arians he was trying to get him another contract, Art made that decision Arians was too stubborn and wouldn't change his offense to protect Ben better.

Dude WTF are you even talking about? I think you took one two many shots to your dome. You act like it's a foregone conclusion that if you need a win, rudolph will get it. That is a real leap of faith and definitely NOT guaranteed. I'd rather see a young guy get the nod. And, in my opinion, one of the young guys has just as much of a chance at winning a game than a below average, trash heap backup. I swear, you don't read other people's words and just make too many of your own foregone conclusions.

I suggest you slowread the 1st thing I quoted to you again. Reading is hard for some. Because some of you already make up your minds before you actually read what is written.
And yes boxing, and kickboxing in the ring since I was 7 , and playing every sports I could to get off the farm, or out of the house probably did cause me to get many shots to the dome, and yet it still doesn't change that I asked you a question, and you turned it into this. LoL.

Head coaches put together their own staff, this shouldn’t be controversial at all.

Of course an owner can step in and make changes but in general its left to the HC because its counter productive to make your HC work with people that doesnt fit his agenda.
