Troy P appreciation thread

This clip of Clark talking about playing with Troy on Cam's podcast came up in my feed.

I absolutely love hearing players and coaches talk about playing with Troy. Thought I'd share this.

To this day I still believe that the 1st time he leaped over both lines on a field goal try to block it the refs flagged him because they didnt belive their own eyes. Like the scene in SemiPro where they invent the alioop and they dont know what to make of it.

 

Troy and Barry Sanders. Randy Moss would be in there if he didn’t quit so much on plays.

But Troy and Sanders were unique shooting stars. I don’t think we will ever see those players again, ever. So happy we did at least.

 

Troy was one of the greats. Man I miss those teams so much. Miss the way the sport used to be during that time frame too.

 

Cowher just talked about Troy, among other things with Bryant McFadden

 

I remember everybody bitching when they got rid of Chris Hope to bring in Ryan Clark to play opposite Polamalu. That was one of the best moves the team made in the last 20 years.

Jack Ham was a LB, but was every bit as cerebral as Polamalu. The Polamalu/Clark tandem was about the equivalent of Lambert/Ham in their regular seasons. When you go to the post-season, Lambert/Ham were iconic players.

Of course, the notorious Ray Lewis and Ed Reed will forever be compared to Polamalu and Clark.

 

Jack Lambert was always my all time favorite Steeler until Troy came along

 

It's like how sometimes I think Harrison got flagged just because he hit guys too hard.

Refs: "That can't be legal, right?"

 

It's just......How could anyone NOT like Troy???

He was the most humble great player that I can think of. Jack Ham was another player that comes to mind.

 

I think in 2009 he was poised to have his best year ever, but unfortunately he got injured that year.

 

I remember people talking crap about him on the old board, and I would bet money its some of the guy that are now on our board today.
They called him Bustamalu , and midget, and mister concussion. Now they talk about how they always loved him. LoL

 

I might be biased, but i believe he is the greatest strong safety to ever play in the NFL.

 

I remember when people would ask me what I thought the Steelers were going to do in the draft that year. I told them there was this guy from USC named Polamalu, and I was hoping the team was going to draft him. They looked at me like I had a third eye! There were only a couple draft picks over the years that I was jumping around the room when they drafted them: Rod Woodson, Troy, and Big Ben. I was thrilled about a lot of the players they have drafted, but I really fell in love with them in college and prayed they would somehow become Steelers because I believed they were going to be great.

It took him a little bit to get it all down, but once he did.....Oh man...What a player!

Im going to have to do a deep dive on this because Troy and Chris were a solid pair but I don't remember them getting rid of Hope to get Clark. I thought the Titans offered him more than the Steelers were able/willing to offer and they literally were able to get Clark. However it happened I think it was the best outcome.

 

I was lucky enough to be at the stadium to watch some of his greatest moments.

I was there when he picked off Carson Palmer as a rookie for a pick 6.

I was there when he finger tipped a ball almost on the ground in the snow for an interception vs the Chargers.

I was there when he picked off Joe Flacco in the AFCC game to send us to the Superbowl.

 

I believe I wantedQb Palmer that year, but knew we couldn't get him. I can't remember who I wanted after that. Probably either Troy, or some other DB. LoL

 

Polamalu is the greatest SS after Ronnie Lott.

At one point, it may have been in the above interview, I didn't watch all of it, Cowher said of TP that he was the most studious person he ever met. Not the smartest football player, but the smartest person.
