Mike Tomlin is stepping down from the Steelers

Clueless fans act like the Steelers are the only team to move players to different positions.

 

I love buying guitars that most won't look at because they are cheap, and then modifying them to be good guitars because in all reality all they need was a little bit of work. I know guys that have spent more money on one guitar than Ive spent on all the guitars I play out with.
Im not downing them, its all cool ,but I Love working on, and making them better than when I bought them.
I have a 200 dollar Tradition that many haven't even heard of, and when most people pick it up they are like.... wow this thing plays great. How much did you pay for it, and I say 200 dollars.
Not all cheap guitars can be done this way because they are just too poorly made ,but there are some out there that the basic bones are well made, and they just need a bit of love, time, and work.

 

I like the guy, and I think too many have been too hard on him because he doesn't share their opinions

Yeah that makes sense.
He took players like Old Wilson , and made him win again, and then Wilson got a job the next year with the Giants , and lost his job so badly he had to retire.
He took Fields , and made people believe that he had turned the corner so much that people on here were begging that we keep him, and then proceed after Fields left to suck so bad he lost his starting job, and is now a permanent backup.
He took A. Rodgers that hadn't had a winning season his last year in Green Bay, and his two years in the Jets, and went to the playoffs, but yeah what You say make sense................

I almost exclusively play acoustics, but I do have an old Epiphone LP studio that I got for a song...just needed a set up and plays OK. Came with a nice leather strap. But I've never really done any significant work to the electronics.

Not a huge repair, but I bought a used Ovation Celebrity this summer. My dad has a late 70's balladeer and I have just always loved the sound of that guitar. The one I have isn't as resonate, but it's really fun to play...and pushes me to practice standing up because the rounded backs are a little less comfortable to play sitting down. I didn't have an acoustic with a cutout, so that was nice too.

This one had some ugly (and not ugly) looking chips in the top, but it was all superficial in the lacquer. So I spend a day pretending to be a luthier and doing some drop filling. Was going to buy it for $125, but the seller talked me down to $100 when we met because we had a nice chat and he felt bad about how bad the gig bag was beat up (I'm never going to use the bag anyway). I kept trying to give him the extra money, but he was an old single guy and I think he just valued the chat we had and he wouldn't take it.

It's a fun hobby. And at the prices I try to buy the guitars at, I think I could always sell them for at least what I paid for them. Again...in theory. Because I've never sold one. In part because the one I really should sell because the one I should sell (if I was going to sell it...which I'm not) is my first guitar. Which was a birthday present from my then girlfriend, who's now my wife. And I'd feel bad trying to sell it. So it hangs on my wall in some alternate tuning (usually just 1/2 a step down). Ready for the next time I play it.

Or my brother or my dad will play one of my other guitars when they're down and I'll play that one.

Now You are making me feel bad about selling/trading my Fender Strat that the 1st woman I was engaged to bought me. LoL.
I stopped playing any guitars that weren't 24 fret, and that had tremolo systems on them, and so I let it go. She , and I are still friends, and about two years ago out of the blue she asked about that guitar. How come you never play it. LoL. Had some explaining to do.
I also love how Ovations sound.
I can't play acoustics for very long because of my right shoulder now, but there was a time if I wasn't playing out, or recording thats all I played was acoustics. I had a old beat up Fender acoustic that I carried everywhere I went. Fishing, hunting, camping, partying, wherever.

 

Your guitar is beautiful. That looks like an Ibanez S from the front. Is it one of their S models? Everyone talks about how thin they are and how easy they are to play.

I don't really know anything about guitar. I don't know how to play. I was thinking about getting a Line6 modeling amp because I have an electric that I bought years ago that I was going to start screwing around on. I love the new Ibanez S520 and was looking at them and watching youtube videos reviewing them.

I think I would probably have sold that Strat too. Don't know whatever the back story is, but sounds like the right call for a clean break. Although maybe sending it out Hentrix style would have been fun too!



I also have a Fender acoustic. It's a 12 string from the 80s (made in Japan). Not sure if it's how it came from the factory, or if the guy I bought it from did it, but it's set up beautifully. Really fun to play. Keeps tune pretty well (so I don't spend more time tuning it than playing it).

But I just play for myself (and my kids) in the basement. Or around the fire with friends / family. Not brave enough to try an open mic or anything more substantial than that.

I envy the kids today starting out on guitar or bass. You can buy a $150 guitar or $200 bass... set it up properly and it will stay in tune, sound good... and be gig worthy. There's so many good choices of quality, entry level instruments now at Sweetwater and Musicians Friend... it's almost impossible to go wrong.

There wasn't much middle ground in the 80's. It was either bargain, sears roebuck, plastic japanese crap.... or expensive Fender and beyond.

USA Fenders were around $5-600 back then, which was a sh!t load of money.

 

I'd believe that when I saw it. It's hard to quit a cult.

 

I don't know being on the same side as Glenn is enough to shake your faith in anything,lol

 

Of course,this is not the only team but you can't play musical chair with players like Jones who was raw when he was rookie and never play right tackle before. Versatility is important for backup players but much less for starters. Promising young players need to be comfortable at the start, and the Steelers did a poor job with players like Jones at the start.It would not been a issue if Munchak was still our o-line coach.Dotson would still a steelers too
