My other thought is making Watson play and getting booed is actually a punishment. Playing time is a reward for 31 other teams, but not for the Browns.

The owner likely hates the thought of paying somebody that doesn't work. I bet Watson isn't happy about being the starter.

This is probably true for every franchise.

And there will certainly be fans of other franchises that say this about Ben.

Just like we say it about Watson. And certainly about Ray Lewis.

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what the angle is with naming Watson the starter. Is it possible that the Browns have an insurance policy in the event he gets injured? So they put him out there knowing he will get injured so they can get some reimbursement?

I see the first two Browns games are on the road. Maybe the Browns brass is hoping that Watson does poorly and they lose those two games and then they can trot out the crowd favorite Sanders for the home opener.

I definitely understand that it would be easier to replace Watson with Sanders than the other way around.

Jimmy and Dee Haslam the owners wanted the trade for Watson

    They were at Watson’s wedding

Not hard to read anything here

When your choices are DeShaunWatson, Shedeure Sanders or Dillon Gabriel the decision is easy… bring back Diego Pavia

One of our posters still thinks they should have drafted Pavia in the third round

Same poster appears to have relented on the need to give Mason a 4 year window

I was listening to 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland this morning on my way to the hospital. A Watson supporter called in and asked the host what DeSean Watson would have to do in the first regular season game for them to be excited about the second game?

The host said "miss the bus"

It's not just the Browns. They make pizza there without melting the cheese. It's like if the Browns were pizza how could they mess up the obvious?

Dillon Gabriel just made the Brown's QB choice even more confusing by going 12-15 for 180 yards and 3 TD's all in the first half.

They do it in Pittsburgh too which is why they cannot win an NFL playoff game.

Steelers have 4 QBs under contract. Browns tell the Steelers to "Hold my Beer and Stand Back" and sign Joe Milton to have 5 QBs on the roster.

Gabirelle is on IR for the first 4 weeks of the season, so the Browns have added a 5th QB to their 53-man roster. Browns being the Browns.......

The more I look at the Browns' position on Spotrac.com the more I see they are screwed.
it looks like they have to cut watson in march 2027 and take the $86 million dead cap hit.
But they have no capacity to help their cap situation. All their next highly paid players are already restructured to minimum salaries.
They're $33 million under right now but I don't see how they can eat an $86 million dead cap hit.
    They're screwed.

Haslem is a billionaire, he isn't dumb about business, he is most definitely not smart about football. Cutting Watson would probably save money in the long run, he is getting paid either way! If they cut him, they appease their fan base, they get to see if Sanders can be the future, it clears up the 2027 draft picture, they sell more Sanders and Gabriel jerseys, they create a roster spot for a player who can help win games, etc.

You forgot about all the money they wasted on DW to see him ride the pine.
