I just got what you were saying about “My Disposition”. Pretty funny. Lloyd was my all time favorite. That was when the NFL was the most fun to watch and up until 2009.

I don’t know his hands were pretty suspect. I do get what you’re saying regarding contracts. I just don’t like when the players approach or handle it this way. I think he pissed the Steelers off and he lacked the leverage to do this. He and his agent should have been more aware. I didn’t like when Ward, TJ and Heyward pulled this crap but they at least had significantly more tenure and in TJ’s case he literally was the top edge at the time.

Yes tag is a possibility and maybe a probability

But if I am correct it is the average of the top which is good

    Nice.

I grew up in Canada, so I only really started watching them in the last year of Noll's tenure.

Lloyd is a huge part of the reason I chose the Steelers as my favorite team. I've always loved defensive teams in sports. And it's hard to be more of a bad ass than Lloyd was.

I think they were projecting the tag to be ~ $24MM for next year at the beginning of the offseason.

I don't know how they get to that estimate (i.e. what contracts they were assuming would get done and what they would get done for).

That doesn't make it any less accurate.

But they would get this year on the cheap so if you average it over the next two it’s very reasonable.

They don't have resign him. He is under contract for this season.

I believe that behind the scenes his agent already went high before those other corners were signed. Seems the front office at this time is not very interested not even negotiating.

I feel Porter Jr is in that top 10 CB range.

I don't want to see a mistake like they did with the Watt contract needing to be a dollar or so more then others. In Watt's case it was Garrett.

He can play it out as far as i'm concerned and then they can franchise him next year and negotiate if they want to. If he sits out fine him! Right from the jump.

I'm sure if he doesn't get the monster deal he will sob to Daddy like he did on draft day when he was not selected in the 1st round.

I called it out before you even responded that you would disagree with the reports which is exactly what you did. It’s easy to just say those reports aren’t accurate with nothing to back it up other than just saying they aren’t accurate. The bottom line is JPJ isn’t signed. He wasn’t the first one they attempted to sign among that rookie class. He faked an injury all camp which further pissed off the Steelers. All signs lead to those reports being somewhat legitimate. The bottom line is he could have handled this much better. He is no different than Leveon Bell in my book. I wouldn’t be surprised if he holds out the whole year. He just seems like the type to force a trade.

Yes JPJ is very much ahead of Ike Taylor at this point.
People tend to forget that after he was finally given the start his 3rd year, he was then thrown in Cowher dog house the 4th year, and had to battle back to become the starter again.
Right now JPJ is a better cover man than Taylor was, and JPJ is only going into his 4th year. Ike was better , and more aggressive at tackling than JPJ is, but he's not done. All of this said I was a huge fan of Ike Taylor

It’s an opinion. You know what they say about opinions. At any rate it’s pretty hard to compare them. Different eras and different defenses. The thing that humors me is everyone always likes to hone in on the coverage metric as the only thing that matters. Last I checked these guys were football players first and cb’s second. Run stoppage and run stoppage after the catch are pretty important. Last I checked these guys Steelers over the last five years have not been good against the run or tackling in general. It’s like the argument of picking Sanders over Woodson. Sanders did one thing well at cb but he was never close to the complete cb that Woodson ever was.

‘The other difference with Ike and JPJ was Ike never held out and nor did he expect to be the to- paid cb. He wasn’t bigger than team. He was a team first guy. Big difference right there.

Part of the issue here is JPJ’s agent also represents Gonzalez so it’s in his interest to leverage both of the. Against each other to drive up the market. The Steelers understand a game is being played here and they just aren’t doing to participate in it. Meanwhile you have Joey Porter Sr. I’m sure chirping in his ear saying he is the best cb in the nfl and don’t let the Steelers screw you over like they did me etc. I really wouldn’t be surprised if he sits out the season. If they just put aside the go and use a little common sense I’m sure the Steelers would sit down and pay him close to of not top five cb money which I think up to this point in his career is more than fair.

I agree that Woodson was a better overall CB than Sanders. What Im saying is as a cover man JPJ is already better than Ike, and this is his 4th year. He has gotten better at tackling, just not as good as Ike at it ......yet.
Hell he may not ever be overall better than Ike Taylor, but he has started better at coverage. We shall see.

‘This is exactly what I was trying to say. Why would the Steelers pay him top cb money at this point when they have all the leverage, especially when he is acting this way. I think it just further soured them toward him. The agent also represents Gonzalez so don’t think that ga,es aren’t being played between both of the, to try to drive up and reset the market. You overpay for Porter now and two years from now you may not be able to resign a Fautanu when his contract is up. That’s what people don’t see. In hindsight paying Watt like we did was really foolish especially in light of his decline.

if it’s all about ego with JPJ I would front load the contract starting next year with heavy incentives based on top five performance with it easy to get out of after three years as in no guarantees after the third year. Something tells me JPJ wants a top three base pay with heavy gauruntees. I just think he is being unreasonable and that’s why the Steelers are acting the way they are right now. I have never seen the, this dismissive in negotiations before.

I agree with that. The question is does that make him deserving of resetting the CB market? I have never seen the Steelers this dismissive in negotiations. I feel like him or his agent really pissed them off. I feel like his agent who also represents Gonzalez is leveraging each player off each other to drive up the market. The Steelers aren’t having any of it. I really am concerned JPJ could sit out the year like Leveon did. It would be crazy stupid. But the way he has negotiated up until this point has been stupid when the Steelers have all the leverage.

Well I can tell You this for a fact. If Devon Witherspoon is the highest paid CB at 33 million, and JPJ is as good or better, he , and Gonzalez, and every CB that comes up that is within Witherspoons stat line, and playing abilities are all within that sphere of a contract price. That's how it works in the NFL.

I just want him signed and here till hes 30 then they can move on. Not concerned with the $ amount, we have no money tied up in a franchise QB, now’s the time to splurge and build up the rest of the roster and then If we are lucky, Allar is the guy and we have a 4 year window to win the SB.

Thats the best way to do it, get everything in place first and then the franchise QB on the cheap.

Micah Parsons was atop 5 pass rusher but Dallas didn't want to pay him top 5 money.

1st. Pass rushing is way different than playing CB..example: we have been a Defense 1st team for awhile yet we've only had 2 good CB in forever, but we've had many great pass rushers.
Its easier to pick a pass rusher than a CB, or a Qb.
2nd. Green Bay paid him , and gave away draft picks, and some of you thought it would bring them a SB

That may be the case but he doesn’t have the leverage. You cave on this one and then it’s Frazier and then Fautanu after that whom will want to set the market at their positions. Them giving into Watt set this precedent now their in a bad situation.
