Shefter reporting Broderick Jones traded to Cowboys

I still admit in last october that I was wrong on Fields.Some can't move on from that.Everyone can make bad prediction

 

By the way, I don't expect Jones to become an excellent player in Dallas, similar to Dotson with the Rams because of his neck injury, but I'm just saying that if Jones becomes a solid player, it's going to look bad on the former coaching staff who were raw players, in need of development, but who changed positions too often like mentionned in the tweet in post 76.The steelers did not gave Jones any favor

 

He flipped Broderick Jones plus a 2027 4th for Dallas’s 2027 3rd and 6th. Good move Khan.

I like the term "coaching malpractice" I wonder if we can sue the bumm?

 

I read some comments by Cryboys fans. A majority are excited by getting Jones and think they snookered the Steelers. They must not have seen what we saw.
There was a Steelers coach, I don’t remember who, who said “You’ve got to get them good or get them out”. That holds true in this case. Maybe his neck injury heals and he gets strength back but I would not bet on it. And by that time his rookie contract will be up.
This trade may end up a nothing burger for the Steelers in the end, depending on who they get with the third rounder they got for him. It does free up a roster spot and some salary.

Doesn’t matter when he was picked. It’s clear as day that an entire year out of weight room has significantly diminished Jones play strength. He’s got a long road back to building that strength up to pre injury levels. That’s just facts of his injury and recovery.

Turning that into a top 100 pick is a good thing.

The separate issue of Jones working or not working out as a first round pick is not great. Personally, I think if he doesn’t get hurt he likely would’ve continued his development. The injury just robbed him of strength and his technique is too messy to overcome that.

 

Actually, the Steelers got back their own 3rd round pick that they gave Dallas in the trade for Pickens.

No,this is the 6th round pick....The steelers never gave up their 3rd round pick in the Pickens trade

 

The fact that none of the guys listed thrived anywhere in the NFL might undercut the point you and the original poster thinks it makes.

The players listed are scouting failures first. Burns, Davis, Mendenhall, Harris, Jones, and Kaleb Johnson are just guys that aren’t going anywhere in the NFL regardless of system.

 

Just for the hell of it, I looked at the Draft Trade Value chart, just to see what Broderick fetched.

Last yr Dallas drafted #11th, the Steelers #21. So by the chart I had, The 11th pick in the 3rd round is worth 215pt, the 11th in the 6th is worth 24.
The #21st pick in the 4th round is worth 66 pts. So the Steelers got (215+ +24 - 66 ), 173 pts worth of draft value.

According to the charge this is equivalent of the 19 or 20th pick in the 3rd round, or pick 83/84 overall.

Again for the hell of it, I looked to see who got taken around that point in recent drafts, Surprisingly, the Steelers had a quite a few picks around that point in recent yrs:

2023 Devan Achane Mia 84th
2022 Demarvin Leal 84th
2021 Kendrick Green 87th
2020 Nobodies
2019 Justin Lane -CB 83th

I thought the Steelers got better than expected return for Broderick, but most of the guys on the list are no great shakes. Achane has been pretty good for Mia, and Kendrick Green was pretty good after he left PGH (Edit: boy, memory is bad, Green hasn't been much, he's only started 4 games since leaving Pitt!).

As there's a decent chance Broderick's neck injury will shorten or end his career, what they got in return was better than nothing. But not by much.

 

Only in jest. Honestly think Jones deserves a restart somewhere else. He's got the physical assets but I do question whether he has the mental discipline for the pro game. That's what led to his inconsistency.

Of course it matters where he was picked, he was a 1st rounder. I don't think he was going anywhere, injury or not, the injury probably gave the Steelers an out for a trade. His technique was awful, and so was the mental side of his game, this is not a trade Khan should get credit for given for beyond the fact he's had to cut his losses on a total bust.

 

This was Omar Khan’s first pick as Steelers GM. Give him credit for the trade. That was a good move. The first-round grade on Broderick Jones is still a C-. In college he didn’t start a lot of games, and he was on a loaded Georgia team which made his evaluation harder. Jones was overdrafted. The trade helps clean it up. The original selection is still the miss.

 

It was a way to get Jones on the field at RT, Dan Moore wanted to stay at LT.

Exactly pandering to a bad player, at the expense of the development and comfort level of your 1st round pick.

 

My guess is that an extra 3rd and our original 6th (minus our original 4th) doesn't really give us much for moving up in the 1st.

 

That didn't stop the Titans from overpaying him, and he was serviceable most of his time with the Steelers.

 

The titans were 3-14 in each of the last 2 seasons.They make so many dumb decision,like firing Vrabel,etc
