I'll be thoroughly pissed if they keep Kaleb and cut Eli or Lew.

Does Center Ryan McCollum make the 53-man roster? Last night he started at center with Zach getting the night off, and then played every snap at center.

I do not know if Anderson or Hoffman have even taken a single preseason snap at Center. I don't want to see Dunk trying to play center, as he is have enough of a challenge moving from Tackle to Guard.

Do you keep your 4th string QB, or your backup center?

No sense in making cuts until the deadline. It's nice to gives guys a chance to catch on somewhere else but if you are trying to slide a guy or two into the practice squad its better to wait until there are lots of guys without a job to act as a blind.

They have to cut something like 37

I would think 15-20 of those are no brainers

Veterans do not go through Waivers. They can be immediately signed to the practice squad.

You could go to a VET today, let him know he is being released and immediately offer him a practice squad contract.

    EDIT:

NFL Practice Squad Rules for Vested Veterans
In the NFL, veteran players with four or more accrued seasons are considered “vested” and are not required to clear waivers when released during roster cuts. Instead, they become free agents immediately and can be signed to a practice squad by any team without going through the waiver process

No shot they only keep 5 DL. They usually keep 7, and will keep at least 6.

too many RB's. No way we keep 4RB and a FB. You're also missing an interior OL. Your roster has us going into the season without a back up center. That's not going to happen.

This is how I would do it. I'm almost certain the Steelers will do differently lol

    Offense - 25
    QB - Rodgers, Howard, Allar
    RB - Warren, Dowdle, Heidenreich
WR - Metcalf, Pittman, Bernard, Wilson, Skowronek, Wetjen
    TE - Washington, Freiermuth, Tonyan
    FB - Nowakowski
OT - Fautanu, Cook, Iheanachor, Jones
    OG - Anderson, McCormick, Dunker
    C - Frazier, Hoffman

    Defense - 25
DL - Heyward, Black, Harmon, Benton, Joseph-Day, Rubio
Edge - Watt, Highsmith, Herbig, Sawyer
ILB - Queen, Wilson, Roberts, Holcomb, Bruener
CB - Porter, Dean, Ramsey, Samuel, Everette, Echols
    S - Elliott, Brisker, Jenkins, Spears-Jennings

If the Steelers keep 4 QB's then the cut candidates are Tonyan, Jones, Bruener, and Echols. Those are the only 4 guys I would even consider cutting to keep that 4th QB. I don't want to go into the season with only 2 RB's (too many injuries at that position) otherwise Heidenreich would be a candidate. I almost kept Nichols over Heidenreich. That's a tough call.

Are you sure of this I find nothing that says they don’t go through waivers

And why would a vet sign to a ps without going through waivers it’s a big salary difference

Holcomb may be a cut casualty. He was playing with the 3rd-4th stringers last night.

The way they explained it is that you can tell the vet your plans are to have them active on game days and they will be your 1st 53-man roster fill when someone goes down .

My example would be Ryan McCollum. Ryan is the backup center and could be elevated off the practice squad for the first 3 weeks of the season and then if an injury occurs he would be the first lineman they sign to the active roster

Practice squad players who are activated on Game Day make the full game check.
    • When elevated, the player also receives a full active roster game check for that Sunday.

    • The minimum active roster game check in 2026 is estimated at about $49,167

    FYI.

If Holcomb was playing well Roberts would not have been signed. It's too bad because Holcomb was the best inside linebacker before his injury since Shazier.
