I'm not sure it's intentional. It's just who he is. And consider this; BR was never a film junkie like AR. So he wouldn't be taking MR into the lab and detail all the nuances to playing QB, how to look for clues in the defense, etc. It simply wasn't his style as Arians once said. He probably felt any rookie that was on the team had to come in like he did and just learn on the fly.

I thought Mason played for the Steelers.

I caught that comment as well but was hoping it was just his wording. Like "when Mason stepped in for me"...

I don't know why Maye wasn't rated higher by teams coming out. He had actual strong tape in addition to the size and athleticism you want, not to mention great instincts on when to run. He should have been the top pick.

Allar's film couldn't carry his jockstrap, sadly. But there are some similarities I suppose. At this point I'm just hoping he's the diamond in the rough who didn't live up to expectations due to poor coaching, but whenever I've done that I always have that voice in the back of my head telling me quit making excuses for the player. Because I think players are part of that equation too.

Remember too that when they drafted MR, it pissed Ben off because he had threatened retiring if the Steelers couldn't get some big time help on defense. Ben made comments at the end of the 2018 season that the D was unaccountable and undisciplined. From what I heard, there was a come-to-Jesus meeting between Ben and management where management committed to shoring up the D in the draft and then they used a third round pick on MR.

"IF" that is all true, I would have been pissed as well.

Plus, Ben is what he is. I would rather have a beer and cigar, sitting around a fire, with Tomlin than Ben. I believe Tomlin is a good human being, Ben ..... maybe not?

What a riveting convo that would be. You guys could talk about his non-losing season streak. Be sure to find out how his illegitimate child is doing.

This will get the Ben fan club worked up!

For what it’s worth, during his playing career, Ben didn’t shy away from throwing teammates under the bus publicly. In one of his radio interviews, the week after a game, he publicly said he had earned the right to do so.

I think it is fair to simultaneously say that Ben was a great QB who contributed much but also made questionable decisions at times (calling out teammates, off-the-field decisions, etc).

It is increasingly sounding like they may keep all 4 QBs on the roster.

I am not sure how I feel about that. I guess it depends on who else loses a roster spot because of that.

Nah, it would be fine. I respect him as a person, just not as a HC and we wouldn't talk about football.

I am a very direct person and if he would happen to ask me what I thought of his time in Pittsburgh, I would grab a bottle of bourbon, pour us both about 8 ounces to chug and then tell him my feelings. Our pleasant evening around the fire would probably be over. Then again, we might agree that he sucked as a HC and have a great night?:drinks:

ETA: I never heard a word about the affair until now.

I think the team pressured Ben to end his radio show, he threw AB and James Washington under the bus.
