    So

    Live in your fears

Do you really think another team any other team is going to put Howard on their 53

I guess my post in isolation might be confusing. I am not opposed to Howard on the PS. But I disagree with idea no team will try to pick him up. I'm just not that concerned if they do.

I like Ben, but people must ask yourself, and we don't actually know any of them well, but from what we know about Mason, and Ben, why is it that out of all the backups Ben has had , Mason is the only one he didn't like

Because at that point Ben was declining and insecure

    Allar and Howard aren’t competition

Pretty obvious to me then and now

The way I remember it... Ben thought Steelers shouldn't have drafted Rudolph because they already drafted Dobbs the year before.

I don't think it's a good strategy at all because most teams don't carry 4 QBs on their 53, by keeping 4 QBs that means one less player at another position who would likely see more playing time than QB4.

But after all of this time they should be over all that, I have heard that Mason has taken some shots at Ben since he's retired. When the Packers drafted Jordan Love in the first round while Aaron Rodgers was still there, he didn't have act like Ben did towards Mason .

Ok, what about his NFL regular season game against the Ravens where he went 18-20 (90% completion) setting a single game franchise record for completion percentage. Now, with new coaching, scheme, and better QB coaching he has a chance to build off that

That and he felt that the pick should have been someone to help them win now.

But he put the Steelers in that position by talking retirement trying to get Haley fired.

Doesn’t make sense anymore. Did then not now. Theres no competition anymore for him to still feel that way.

Could it be that Ben feels like many of us and there is no upside to keeping him over two younger guys you are trying to develop.

Look, competition is good. Mason is good competition for Howard and Allar. He also has years of NFL experience which you cant replace. Its going to be 4. There are creative ways to solve problems like:
    "we'll lose a roster spot"
or "then Allar won't get as many reps". I've said it before but it's an unusual situation with Rodgers last season so an unusual solution is in play

Yes he had a 3 game stretch 3 years ago that was good but has lost 6 out of his last 7 starts since then including his last 2 Steeler starts.

I am done w this, too much negative Nancy, the guy played with a career killing offensive line w Titans, I mean it was awful, let it go. All I am saying is Mason is an important player to keep in the room and is great competition for Howard and Allar. You might have hard time dealing with it but get used to it.

I agree. 4 QB's is a joke. Is it worth keeping Mason around and going with 3 safeties? 4 ILB's? 2 TE's? Depth suffers immensely, and once injuries hit, it will be a tough thing to hold onto all 4 for the entire year. I think I've made my opinion pretty clear, but the right thing for the organization to do is to keep 3 QB's and for the two backups to be Howard and Allar.

I don't comment here much any longer and haven't done so in years but when I hear some absolute negative stuff about Mason, I have to reply. FWIW, I refereed Mason in high school. Nice kid. I also happen to be friends with someone that is incredibly close to his family in Rock Hill, South Carolina. I did live just 15 miles from there. I spent 20+ years living in that area. So, I DO get some information from my source. Hey, years ago he was kind enough to ask Mason to autograph a jersey for my family and he did. I can text him to see if he has any info about the current situation and report back in a couple of days.

Let's be clear though. Ben hated Mason. So much so, that Ben NEVER spoke to Mason. NEVER tried to help the guy out, ever. Instead of grooming him for when he passed the torch, he shunned him and in part IMO, played a role in Mason's lack of success with the Steelers.

Mason taking shots at Ben is new to me. Now, if you mean when he was asked about things after Ben retired and he stated that Ben did not help him, well I do recall him stating that, but if anything can be said about Mason, is that he has not bad mouthed any Steeler nor the organization after they threw him under the bus especially after offering him the starting job and then drafting Pickett and reneged.

Mason will be fine. He has saved a lot of his money and will probably make a great college OC in the future and if the Steelers move on from him, he will still find a backup role somewhere.

Frankly, when this was going on, I soured on Ben. He is not the person he projects in everyday life. What and how he treated Mason is incredibly unprofessional and petty.

Howard is the only one that would likely clear waivers he should be cut, then re-signed to the practice squad.

I was listening to a podcast by some in the local media they didn't repeat anything Mason may have said about Ben.

I guess Im different about all this. Its not a Mason thing to me, its a experienced Qb as a backup thing for me.
At one point I was actually hoping C. Rush would be brought in because he knew McCarthys Offense, but that's not going to happen.
All Im getting at is no freaking way Im going into a season the 1st year of coaching with a 42 year old Qb, and no experience Qbs behind him.

Listen to Roethlisberger's own words regarding Rudolph:

"When Mason played for me, I was trying to help Mason as much as I could. Then, he just...he didn't want my help anymore, so I backed off. I never had an issue with Mason when he got drafted. I'm going to put it out there now. I had more of an issue with the pick."

Rudolph didn't play for Roethlisberger until the season after he was drafted. Roethlisberger's quote tells me he was a day late, dollar short with his 'help' for Mason. Why not Rudolph's rookie season?

There was something wrong between them. I don't care what anyone says. Hell you could see it in the sidelines. Ben didn't treat him like he did any of the other backups

B.S. IMO, Ben was trying to cover his tracks. I got my info straight from my source and he has no reason to lie about it. Ben, no doubt was pissed that they drafted Mason. Ben gives Mason the cold shoulder instead of trying to bring him along. Ben is merely trying to cover and make it sound like Mason didn't want any of his help. Yea, right! Rookie guy wanting to know the ropes and he tells Ben to pound sand?

All the reports I have seen show that Mason and Aaron are good friends. Mason really likes him as they get along I guess really well. Now, contrast that to Ben. Just doesn't make any sense seeing Mason has played by the company rules and never was a head case, never bad mouthed the organization or any specific player. It doesn't fit his M.O. that he would tell Ben this. Ben is simply trying to CYA.
