It's certainly an interesting situation. Steelers own his rights through 2027 due to 2027 being an option year. I'd expect the Steelers to push for precedent akin to Sean Peyton, but not much more, even though they probably could.

 

He's a polarizing figure. And in my opinion he didn't do much good given the talent that he had to work with and the results he got. His ego was bigger than the team and that is inexcusable.

What's polarizing is that people have him slated for the Hall of Fame when his overall accomplishment is mediocre.

In the face of continued losing playoffs games he made smart-ass comments to the media as if he was all-knowing.

It's only my opinion but he was more detrimental to the Steelers than people realize.

 

Fredo Rooney is more to blame for allowing it to go on 5 years too many.

I don't understand how many fans end up taking a side on an issue or person.

I like Mike Tomlin and thought he was a very good coach for many years.

I also saw him fail to adapt later in his career, have a weaker coaching staff, make more and more bad personnel and coaching decisions, and get owned in the playoffs over and over again while featuring a defense that he oversaw that was mauled by most teams for a decade.

Both versions of Mike Tomlin are true.

I can still like the guy and criticize him for his mistakes later in his career while still appreciating that he was a good coach for a long time. Both are true to me.

Coach T coming back could help set the team up for the next decade!

 

Hate is a pretty strong word I couldn't hate someone very easily, certainly not someone I've never met and has never done anything to me personally.

That being said, Prior to Tomlin, the Steelers were a feared team and respected franchise for 45 years, and that is saying something in the NFL.

Since he put his brand on this team, we have become synonymous with harboring or creating problem players, poor on field discipline, predictability, incompetent coaching staff, and a push-over in the playoffs.

I definitely hate what Tomlin turned the Steelers into.

And as has been pointed out numerous times, Rooney was content with it all.
