I guess they difficult part is certain stats say he is top 3 or top 5 CB, other stats say he is more like top 10. Depends on how you view it.

I’d say the fact he can lock down the best wr’s and keep them out of the end zone is huge. I think you got to pay him like a top 3 CB. If he wants to be the top the top paid cb in the entire nfl that is a little crazy, but he is definitely up there.

I’m worried the wheels are going to fall off for Ramsay this year. He got smoked last year until they put him at safety. They probably should have moved on. I’d play Asante Jr over him in almost any situation.

Let him play the season out then franchise him in 2027. Then franchise him again in 2028.

 

I've heard he wants top 5 money.
I like Joey Porter and I think he will develop into a very good corner and probably a top 5 one.
I don't think he's there yet, he has only 3 picks and 31 PD's.
An extension is probably a good thing to do here and I don't think I want to go the Franchise route.
I think it is a good investment in the future and it will pay off. There's a lot of "Likely to achieve" type incentives one can beef up a contract value for.
Just figure it out and get it done.

One of the major shortcomings of Omar's drafting strategy is his inability to find/pick/acquire elite players.
Porter has potential to be a very good one and is young enough to develop and lead younger players in a rebuild scenario. A "core" player so to say.
That's a lot to give up on.

The way the trade is written up, it seems to imply getting a 1st and a 2nd round selections plus a quality player.
Currently, I think we would not get anything more than a 6th or 7th and a player or maybe a 3rd in a straight trade but I will admit, stranger things have happened.
It's hard for me to fathom teams thinking he is a top 5 CB currently. No offense is trying to stay away from Porter.
I do know that they do respect his talent though and the investment would be based on potential they perceive him to have.

In the meantime, Samuel has played very well and was regarded as a elite type player before the injury. He's on the smallish side though.

I don't know where Omar falls on this sort of thing, he's gotten lucky on a trade or two so maybe lightning strikes again.

Before the fake injury B.S. I was willing to go 5 years for $150 million. Now I am starting to wonder if JPJ starts the season on IR to save a roster spot.

All I can say is many many many of you don't know how hard it is to be a starting CB in the NFL, hell anywhere, and not give up a TD in two years.

 

It is really not me, we have a weird track record.
I'm not making any guesses, it just would not surprise me.
On the other hand, it gives people something to complain about. (though I imagine if they made a trade for 3 firsts.... someone would be belly aching.)

 

Especially with the rules against you.
I still have a hard time saying top 5, maybe top 10 possibly... but I do think he is on the rise and and will be top 5.
That to me, makes me want to wager on the potential and make him happy to do so here.
But armchair GM's we have, probably don't agree.

 

Yes, the knock on him is his lack of interceptions. Well that's probably because the other team just doesn't throw in his direction.

It sounds like JPJ is the one being unreasonable here. As a fan it really sours me towards him. I se it as being incredibly selfish. It makes me not want to route for `the guy but route against him.

‘It’s just unreasonable. I get wanting compensated fairly. There are also better ways to handle it. I wasn’t happy with Watt or Heyward either when they did it but Cam at least recognized his value and wasn’t unrealistic about it and Watt intervened when his agent was being unreasonable and acce-ted what was on the table. I get the impression JPJ is acting differently here. Again does a few extra million a year really make a difference in one’s life when they already have generational wealth that can provide the, everything they possible could want and more. These guys are all compensated way more than any of them should be it’s a bit ridiculous. Like sign the damn contract and be greatful and appreciative. I really hope this backfires on him if he holds out. Maybe we can trade him to a terrible team like the Dolphins or something.

 

It's insane. He's been doing this his entire football career. He just shuts people down.

People go gaga over a guy that gets 3 interceptions a year and gives up 4 touchdowns. They love the splash play turnover.

He's under contract. He shouldn't be sitting in IMO. Get out there and show the team that you are going to work and they are much more likely to give you a lucrative deal. On the other hand, the team signing all these players while they don't even offer him a contract (If the reports are true) seems criminal because it is ultimately going to cost the team more and more money the longer they wait.

The thing that bothers me is that we have football fans here that have been following the game for a very long time. We all know that it isn't always the best guy that is getting the most money. It is the best player currently up for a contract. This is how the NFL is now structured and the way it works. If they sign Porter to a $30 million per contract today, if he continues to ball out and even improve it will seem like a huge bargain by the end of next year when the top guys are getting $40 mil. Sometimes we can get too stressed out about dollars for a terrific player.

I have no problem paying players that have shown high-level play consistently. It's when they offer big money to players that haven't proven they can even play at a high level yet that pi$$es me off.

 

I do t think anyone would dispute Porter is a good cb. Elite cb. It is he the best cb? Can he play in multiple systems or does he have limitations that forces the defense to play a certain way. The answer to those questions is a resounding yes - he does have limitations. He is very average in zone coverage. He has been highly penalized over the course of his career with the exception of last year, his run defense is ok not great. The bottom line is he is not the best CB in the nfl as a result he definitely should not be paid to that standard. It’s awfully arrogant of him to expect to be paid like the top cb. He certainly has handled it the right way. Personally o say see you later. Trade him and get a first round pick and more for next year. With all of that being said I do believe he is a top five cb and what he does he does very well which is man cb provided he keeps the penalties down but that to me isn’t worth being paid as the top cb.

 

So convenient for you to give up money on Porter's behalf.

Did you mean $27 million per year for four years? The reports I've seen have the Steelers offering less than that. If you meant $27 million for four years, that would be a joke given the market. I've even heard one NFL reporter say that Porter was going to end up the highest-paid corner in the NFL and the only question is if it will be for the Steelers or another team. I think that is ridiculous, but you are going way too far the other way.

 

So much for the notion that Porter is the reason the deal hasn't gotten done yet. The Steelers should have made a real offer before all those other big contracts were signed. Because they didn't, Porter is going to be more expensive, either for the Steelers or for whatever team he ends up with next.

 

How many players did the Steelers lock up before the final year of their contracts? They do it all the time. They failed to even make Porter an offer before the cornerback market exploded this offseason. They botched this badly. Wake up and see it.
