Troy watched a lot of film

Calls out Ed Reed as a model a few times. Says Ed Reed talked about watching film when he was in college, and Troy listened. Super humble as always and talks about his approach - "You've got to have a student mindset in this sport. You're not going to be original in anything. There's a lot of great players who have done great things."

I imagine he would get frustrated by players who didn't invest in film study. We'll never know. I don't recall him ever calling out anyone. I think he talked about a different culture at the Steelers when he left, but that's about it.

Culture changed when Cowher's players retired.

Tomlin was a "poor-mans" Cowher IMO.

Cowher finally got a top tier QB late in his career and quickly won a Super Bowl.

Even got to one and barely lost with second tier Neil O`dummy.

I liked the way he got the team ready to play.

Tomlin did the win one-lose one too, but he had Ben a long time.

I doubt the media looks at it that way, but I rank Cowher higher than Tomlin based on what I saw.

    ?!

So being both diligent, consistent, studious and persevering in one's studies will make one even better; doubly so if they have talent?!?!

Tomlin won 1 with Cowher's players.

Cowher won 1 with Noll's players.

McCarthy will win 1 with Tomlin's players.

As much as I hate to admit it, I really wish Ed Reed were a Steeler. Suggs too even though he was a scumbag. What a defense that would have been.

I mean, dentists do have good drugs. Just saying.

(Disclaimer 1) My original post was meant as a joke.

    (Disclaimer 2) Don't worry, I'm not really a dentist.

    Or am I?

Better than the 70's defense? I realize this is blasphemy but I think the 2008 Steeler defense with Reed & Suggs in it would have rivaled the 76 defense.

With talent, on average, far less than what Tomlin had.

    Wrong.

All of the players Noll drafted and developed from 87-91 had retired long before Cowher's SBXL victory in 2005.

Woodson, O'Donnell, Lake, Lloyd, Dawson, etc.... all gone long before 2005.

Can't wait to hear the spin on this one from the fanboys.

I think it's a knee jerk reaction for the Tomlin apologists. They can't allow a fact to go undisputed so they have to throw something out there.

It's like Charles Manson saving a cat from a tree and using that to tout what a great person he is.:drinks:

They would have been great with Reed and Suggs but there is NO WAY they would have 5 shutouts during the season. Teams are lucky to get one per season in the modern era.

You can't go two sentences without saying his name, and yet you talk about Steelers fans calling you out when you do. That's what is defined as a hypocrite.
Im no more a fan of Tomlin than of Cowher, or Noll, but that doesn't mean when people say stupid stuff I don't say something.
Like example Tomlin only win with Cowher players. LoL 12 players out of 53, and less than that in the next SB.
I could say Cowher couldn't win a Sb with Nolls players , but I don't because I liked all 3 HCs that Ive watched . Its not my fault people must hate one, and make up stuff about him.
I liked all 3, and in fact , I like Noll the best out of the 3 Ive watched

    You can't add.

And yeah, if someone says the earth is flat, I will probably explain that it isn't.
