Comparing a 3rd round pick without experiencing that has thrown no picks yet, and has a very strong arm with a 6th round pick that has thrown already 2int, and has a very weak arm isn't really a comparaison on what the other teams want.
Some of the people on here act like we are the only team with a bunch of Qbs on it right now, and if a Qb goes down , we are the only team they can get one from.
24 Qbs have been drafted in the same time as Howard, and Allar has been drafted, and yet somehow people think that Howard the 6th round pick is on every teams want list. LoL

Again from the time we drafted Howard, 24 other Qbs have been drafted, and yet some people think that a 6th round pick with no experience on our team is on every teams wish list. Like they don't have 3 , or 4 Qbs of their own .

I think we'll keep all 4 QBs... with Howard on the practice squad.

The Steelers have shown a willingness to tolerate playoff failure for long stretches of time. Not saying that Tomlin didn't earn that level of respect, but McCarthy is a SB champion and well respected coach in his own right. I can assure you that ownership/FO sees McCarthy in a similar vein as they did Tomlin. The Steelers aren't going to fire McCarthy if he cuts a back up QB. McCarthy was brought here for the sole reason of developing the young QB's. His only role outside of pure wins is to ensure that the Steelers have their starting QB of the foreseeable future. Mason just isn't good enough as a player to warrant cutting potential (as long as McCarthy deems Howard as having that potential). If not, then they can easily take their chances with the PS. Maybe he ends up thinking Howard has no chance and lets him go. That is certainly a possibility... but if there is even an inkling of a chance that McCarthy thinks that Howard can be a quality enough starting QB in this league, then the right thing to do is to hang onto him. The only way to guarantee that we do, is to put him on the 53 man roster.

I'm not under a delusion that there will be dozens of teams lining up to sign Howard... but there are enough teams that have poor developmental options that they might consider it. It only takes one team. Heck, even Kendrick Green got signed to a roster off someone's practice squad. The point I am trying to make is that McCarthy is here to develop a QB. Its up to him to decide who is worth putting the effort into. Mason is no longer a developmental player. The only way Mason makes this team is if McCarthy deems Howard to not have enough potential to be at least a quality back up QB in the somewhat near future. The risk is minimal, as our season is over if Rodgers gets hurt and Mason comes in anyways (unless the defense carries him in a similar fashion to his rookie year). If that happens, I'd rather have a look at the upcoming QB class and see if McCarthy likes any of them more than Allar or shore up some other portion of our team with a high end pick.
