Why, if he's going to be that bad?

On the one pitch to the outside we caught the Jets sleeping as Johnson had nothing in front of him but green grass. Incredibly he was so slow it only was like a 4 yard gain. Bob Pompeani was shocked stating that he couldn't believe all the more yardage that Johnson got on the play.

I had to quit watching this

It would have been good if the speaker had done his homework and spoke in a professional manner

Who else are they going to play? The guy from Steelersdepot said Bernard screwed at training camp quite a bit with false starts and not running his routes correctly.

    Ditto

Do these guys just turn on a mic and start to babble with no script or plan of attack

It’s still a really poor throw though. If Wilson runs the route perfectly, the defender still catches up to the under thrown pass and it’s a 50/50 ball.

Yeah, except for some poor coverage by starters on the Jets’ opening drive. That’s got to be cleaned up.

Haven't listened to this yet, but it came up on my feed. Todd Haley talking about the Jets PS game.

    Watching through...
    • Big thing seems to be "don't over react".
    • Said hard to determine fault on the picks.
    • Thought Allar was positive. But didn't think there's someone clearly winning the Howard / Allar "battle" right now.
    • Said he doesn't think you can keep 4 because there's no work for a 4th QB.
    • Reading between the lines, seems to me that he's more on the take the two young guys. Said that a guy like Jimmy G (or maybe even Mason) would be around if Rodgers gets hurt enough that you need a vet backup.
    Outside of QBs
    • Said he thought that K Johnson looked good. That he thought both Warren and Dowdle are similar guys. Smaller, hard runners. That the other backups are also like this. Said he'd want a bigger back somewhere on the team too.
    • But also acknowledged that not playing teams hurts Johnson...I don't get how a RB can't play teams.
    • I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but I don't get a guy like Johnson not playing teams. Seems to me like they should have the physical make up for it (even though he's slower than other RBs). So from the outside, seems like it's just about putting your hand up and volunteering. And when you know you're on the chopping block, I can't see why you wouldn't volunteer for something that can keep you getting that sweet NFL play check (even for a bottom of the roster guy) for an extra year or two.

Wilson being Wilson and Howard not having the arm strength to get him the ball. Both to blame.

Wilson again being the camp darling. I can't see him getting cut depth is an issue. But him being the #3? Slipping away for sure.

As far as Howard is concerned I can see a practice squad reservation. Any team that wants him will have to sign him to the 53.

Can't see them keeping 4 on the active roster.

After cuts I feel they will be looking for offensive line help. Jones is useless and who knows when Max is coming back.

People on both sides, the ones that want it to be all Howards fault, and the one that want it to be Wilson fault are just hearing what they want to hear, and not what he's saying.
This my friend is exactly what I mean when I say many people want feelings over facts

My problem with this is how the hell didn't Howard see the DB waiting there baiting him. I don't care what people say that wasn't a complicated D they were running

I didn’t misrepresent the quote. Not clean means he ran a bad route.

I’ve also stated that I dont absolve Howard of any blame.

Facts are facts though, Wilsons poor understanding of routes help lead to those picks.

Tomlin had 19 years to show what he could do, but you're trying to trash Mike McCarthy for getting shutout in the second preseason game of his Steelers career using two young quarterbacks that didn't have a full game's worth of NFL playing time between them. Not a regular season game. No. A preseason game.
Oh yeah...they should fire McCarthy right now!!!! :roflmao:

You just go out of your way to jump on the dumbest things other people say if you think it helps to make Mike Tomlin look better.

    LAME.....

I wonder if Wilson's job will be dependent on what WRs get chopped from other teams on cut down day.

I could easily see us scooping up a vet that's good at route running that Rodgers has a higher likelihood of trusting and letting Wilson go.

Good to know. I think I've seen one or two, but didn't really realize they were a regular thing.

I think it's cool to get thoughts from someone who's been inside the room. Especially since it was the Steelers room. And there's still important decision makers present on the team (e.g. Rooney and Kahn...although I think Kahn was only the contract guy when Haley was still around).

I liked Haley as an OC too. I think he forced Ben out of his comfort zone and that made him into a better passer. Which he needed as he got older because you just can't be young Ben and survive very long in the league.

It does sound like Haley was a dick though.

With the first pick, The DB was trailing. He was able to jump the route and make the INT because Wilson didn't stay flat and drifted upfield. If he stays flat the ball reaches Wilson before the DB can get to it. It's a bad route by Wilson. BUT... it's a scrimmage where you look for those things to get them corrected before the season starts.
Should Howard have thrown the ball then? Absolutely. He learned from that. Both of them learned from that.
I did not see the second pick. Pretty sure it was in the red zone. I can't speak to that one. I was having freezing issues with my feed. Some have said it was the same issue but I didn't get to watch it.
