McCarthy said in his presser that those routes weren’t clean. Just doesnt seem like Wilson can get there mentally.

Not sure that is a bad thing, I read an article yesterday that guys like Smith and Hurleman might be the odd man out due to depth. Cut Wilson and make room for someone who is willing to play hard.

My thoughts flow along these lines:

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in Mike McCarthy's game plan. Yes, I am ecstatic he went with Howard and Allar.
But, Allar was on the field with guys who will not be on any team. It was a terrible way to access him.
I will say, when he had a chance, it's clear he has the better arm.
Still, I am very disappointed in that arrangement..

    RE: Howard.
2 picks. 1 was a very, very bad decision. 1 should have been removed because of offsetting penalties. That was a touchdown throw in a lot of cases,
Overall, Howard played well and made good decisions for the most part.
But, again I am disappointed in the set up.

I would have kept some 2's and spread them by halfs. This set plays the 1st half and that set plays the 2nd half. Even if it was just for a hand full of plays.
That way I have some skill on the field that can catch a pass.
I probably don't need to mention the dropped passes.

So as far as QB evaluation, I'd say "Incomplete"

    The rest of the team.
We have some players among the 2's and 3's, especially on defense.

RB's: Kaleb Johnson is one of the RB's that needs carries to warmup. He is in trouble though as Warren and Dowdle are not slow starters.
WR's: I think this was Roman's chance to shine and he caught 2 out 5 and didn't really shine at all. Currently he occupies the #1 slot of the 3rd WR and has 3 u=names behind him that might not make it except for Wetjen. Overall, the WR's were less than impressive.
TE: They really didn't chose to spotlight them, but Washington got a shot and I think we are good there.
OL: Little concerned but I think they tried some new combo's by moving guys around.
QB's: This wasn't a good way to evaluate them and Howard had the better supporting cast.

ST's: Well, the kicker sucked but he's not going anywhere. Punting seemed good. Coverage was not so good but that was later in the game when the bellboys were playing. Returns? Wetjen made some bad decisions but I think he did get better with each one. There are learning curves to that artform.

Coaching. I did not like the setup for the QBs. But, overall, I think the 2's and 3's played well and didn't really commit penalties and kept the game 7-0. The 4's and 5's played probably as well as they could.

In the end, I don't think there's anything to panic about. I think Mike treated this as a training camp scrimmage with another team. He wanted to evaluate the depth and he put the spotlight on a lot of longshot players..

Exactly what I saw. R. Wilson has no clue. Rodger’s won’t throw to him.

It's funny it was all on Tomlin miscommunication on defense on that first Jets TD it looked like a screw up. And some fans blamed the HC for Roman Wilson sucking now you see why he didn't play at the end of last season.

I felt like Howard had a bit of target fixation. He saw his receiver and his eyes did not see the threats around him. His passes do not have enough zip on them to slam them into the tight spots.

I had high hopes for Caleb Johnson. But on virtually everyone I've seen from him both last year and this year. He just runs to a point and seems to have zero vision. This frequently leads him into running into a wall of defenders. Like I only saw one play from him last night where he made some lateral motions and he actually got a couple yards out of it.

I really liked what I saw from the defense. Every level has play makers. I'm not gonna like some of the cuts we will have to make.

Not really. Go back and check out the tape. I've already watched it twice.

With that said, the guy falls down as soon as he is touched.

He is a free lance after the play breaks down guy .. He does not run good routes he doesn't understand open spots in zones .. He has a very hard time against press coverage .. I stated a good time back that him and KJ did not fit and would not make the roster..I have seen nothing to change that view ...

Eli has more potential as a WR than Roman , Eli has more potential as runner than KJ .The smart move is to get rid of those 2 and keep Eli ..Plus Wetjen showing a few problems as a returner , I hope they give Eli a look this last pre season game ..IMO he is more mentally tough and might be the best choice to start the season...

Speaking to a General Manager about a trade

    Khan:

What would you give up for Broderick Jones?

GM: A Ham Sandwich. No cheese!

    Khan: Sold!

RB room should be Warren, Dowdle, Nichols and Eil.

    Agree about Wilson.

They can't give up on Wilson just yet they don't have much depth.

I don't put very much value in scoring or not scoring in a preseason scrimmage. WE don't know what decisions were made at what times or why. It's a scrimmage.

The Ints were disappointing to me because we were actually moving the offense when they happened. Blame QB or WR or both. Looked good until it didn't.

I would like to see us plan to go on 4th down next game. No punts, I think we have that practiced enough now. 9 punts in 2 scrimmages should be plenty of live punt practice. The score doesn't matter anyway. Just go for it with the offense. 4th and 15+ maybe we punt, but the offense needs the reps. Just a thought.

As I said in my previous post, I like the defense so far at all 3 levels. Gonna be a tough cut down.

Drawing your own conclusion. That's not exactly what he said. He didn't point the finger at Wilson (or Howard).

"There's always plays that are cleaner than others, and those two plays were not clean," McCarthy said.

How else are you supposed to read that??? Especially when people who have played the game said he ran poor routes and then later McCarthy says that quote.

This is a recurring problem with Wilson and and there isnt a chance in hell Rodgers will throw to him if he doesnt know where Wilson will be. So I think he gets cut.

He should get cut after the first interception by Howard. Not only did he run a sloppy pattern but then instead of chasing after the DB he stood there with his thumb up his butt.

Joey Porter last night was one of the Big Winners.
1st driver 3rd and long.... Dean Burned, and then Elliot Burned, followed by Assant Samuel getting Burned resulting in a TD for the 1st team offense.

Time to give Joey his money and get him back on the practice field!

He's not playing great, but they still need him not much depth at WR.

I aksed about the first INT within the GameDay thread, citing eithet miscommunication or a bad throw. I also stated that the second INT was on Will Howard. I went zero for two.

Both seem to be on Roman Wilson. Fair enough there. The question remains as to why Germie didnt receive more playing time.

Only reason I can think of is thay his knowledge of the Playbook and/or properly executing the assignments. Beyond that, I havent the foggiest.

I watched it. He had room multiple times and wasn't quick enough to take advantage of it. Also, yes, he goes down the moment someone gets a finger on him.
