Fautanu has not had a good camp, and was bad in preseason game #1

    https://steelersdepot.com/2026/08/pff-grades-and-snap-counts-steelers-vs-packers/

He allowed 2 pressures, a hurray and a sack. Two penalties on 13 pass plays. His run blocking was poor. I think he just does not have the feet and agility to play left tackle in the NFL. I have said this before.

If he has another bad performance, the Steelers might have to move Cook to Left Tackle, and start Max I at Right Tackle for preseason game #3.

Cook struggled against Green Bay too, are you suggesting they bench Fautanu if he struggles again?

Cook had a so-so game. I would not say he struggled.

Troy’s performance was straight-up disastrous in pre season game #1. Here’s my suggestion: If Fautanu struggles again in preseason game #2 at Left Tackle, then for Game 3 move Cook back to left tackle and start Max I at right tackle.Cook already proved he can handle left tackle at an NFL level late last season. Giving Max real starter reps at his natural position while still having a reliable option on the blind side feels like the smartest way to evaluate.

Does this make sense to you?

Sounds like (your boy!) Cook also played poorly in the opener.

Not sure why you say that TF (or Cook) had a bad camp. Haven't heard anything about either in camp.

I am sure MM will call plays to chip , double Team , or pass or run right at that spot to slow the pressure when AR is at QB ...IMO he wants to see just what we have at LT and to see how the other QB'S deal with that pressure ...

I doubt they will switch back after going all offseason with this lineup.

Hopefully Max can play next game so we can see where he's at.

Pre-snap penalties have plagued Fautanu all through Latrobe. Beat writers have noted the recurring false starts, and Fautanu himself blamed over-aggressiveness and anxiety while adjusting to the cadence on the left side.Whatever. He started 29 games at left tackle in college. What the beat writers aren’t talking about but is obvious to anyone watching closely is that he simply isn’t moving well enough right now to play left tackle at an NFL level. At least well. When a tackle holds or false-starts too much, it can be a tip-off that he fears getting beat.I’ll give Troy one more try at left tackle in preseason Game 2.

If we see a repeat performance, I’m ready for someone else to start at left tackle specifically Cook. if Fautanu doesn’t look settled in Game 2, move Cook back to left tackle for Game 3 and give Max the starting reps at right tackle for 1 pre -season game. Then we evaluate.

Trai said he will be fine, one of the hardest changes you can make, just needs reps.

this will be a big game for several positions. no the tackles didn't play very well early. both moved sides this year. the left guard spot may still be up in the air as well. figure it out this week and i hope they stick with it through the last game and on to the one's that count.

I thought Trai Essex retired many years ago. :confused1:

    Is he an assistant coach?
