Drew Allar was in complete control.

I agree 100% . Allar indeed had the better game. McCarthy and Arth seem to have had some influence on Allar. Having said that Howard did not play a bad game.

 

It's preseason, my fellow Steelers fans. Never forget.

 

I hated Glanville as a coach... but as an analyst, he was very pro-Steelers. Deion Sanders, too. Couldn't stand those guys as coach and player, but very pro-Steelers.

 

Maurice Jones-Drew was ripping the Steelers roster in comparison to Bengals and Ravens in the pre game show! What was up with that? Said Steelers didn't upgrade their roster as good as Ravens and Bengals. Did he miss the signings of Pittman and Dean? And the Ravens losing their All Pro Center?

 

His arguments was poor for sure....If he would just said that if Lamar and Burrow stay healthy are better that the steelers,it would been a better argument from the start

 

Exactly...neither team has a better roster top to bottom. You can argue certain position groups, but top to bottom the Steelers more than hold their water. The QB is the trump card that makes them both more legit contenders.

 

I get it, but to be fair, he was playing with the Steelers backups on offense too.

All Allar can do is play the series he's handed. And he played the 2nd half against GB's scrubs, effortlessly.

All we can do as fans is evaluate what we're given to watch. And of the 3 QBs, Allar stood out.

Yeah, it's just the first preseason game. But you can't help but be excited to see an offensive-minded head coach, using 3 different QBs to attack more than the sidelines.

Would you rate the competition he faced as equivalent to a top College program like OSU? Could the team he faced beat OSU? Just wondering

 

I had a Top 20 Grade on him had he declared in the 2025 NFL Draft. This past season, he dropped outside the Top 32 though that was because his confidence was rocked. That said, much of what I saw from him since 2024 remained; namely his pre snap processing, quick release and natural arm talent.


I was also on record in stating that he needs to go into a situation in which he can sit and develop behind a team that possesses both the structure and resources for him to succeed. Pittsburgh was one of those places; Tom Arth being the biggest resource the Steelers had absent Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers. Arthur was the Passing Game Cooridnator for LA in 2022 and 2023 and aided Justin Herbert to ridiculous heights.


Fast forward to last night?! Allar is beginning to build his foundation. Still a ways away but yesterday wasa good step in the right direction to create the important foundation he needs to succeed. One game down and two to go. Let us see how he performs.

I actually like Howard more before last night. I don’t have a man crush for anyone with male DNA. I simply don’t swing that way. Allar was very decisive preseason or not and he had the defense scattered all over the place not know where he was going with the ball. Hope he keeps it going.

Generally, its a good thing Allar looked so solid. That said, pre-season, everything is the same flavor, vanilla, backups everywhere. There was once a QB named Pickett that looked almost studly week 1 and 2 of pre-season, so, no more will I get all giddy about a pre-season performance. Looking good playing with and against all-vanilla concepts, is one tier above looking bad against them, but about a dozen tiers from NFL franchise QB.

Now, things that matter, like a QB being mostly accurate and good footwork, are vanilla-proof. Same for an RB that can plant and cut on a dime and have defenders fallng the wrong direction or WRs that can cut on a dime or double-move the pants off a DB.

Still, its JUST pre-season.

 

And here I had just about forgotten Pickett. Thanks a lot.

 

Allar playing the way he did is a very bad look for Franklin and his merry band of offensive doofuses. I don't want to start convincing myself that the kid is going to be a quick study. But I'm getting excited.
