He was on Twitter and the Pittsburgh media retweeted him talking about he 's waiting on a phone call to get back in the NFL. He wants to get some payback on the Steelers for releasing him he was probably joking around, but he has no one but himself to blame for being out of the league.

And...I'm guess that because Rainey was a Steeler steelersrule6 probably felt that other Steeler fans might want to discuss what he had said. I hope I never see Rainey in a position to come back and haunt us, but I feel that way about any former player.

Well either Rainey is a really bad dude (WHICH I THINK IS PRETTY OBVIOUS) or other teams must really think the Steelers were grasping at straws for a project player ya know?

I thought he was an effective player to have active on game days. He was very good as a returner (something we may or may not have at all this year) and good as a specific type of RB. I'm surprised he hasn't caught on somewhere. His off-field problems must be worse than I realize.

My memory is foggy (trying to forget last season) but I remember him being really good in preseason, and really average in the games that counted. Sure, he was used in a bizarre way - that time he was promoted to starter from 4th string was probably too much too soon - but I don't remember him being so effective outside of ST.

My guess is that there are too many RBs of his calibre out there already... combined with the obvious personal issues.

Shortly after his release an article popped up connecting him to gambling. There was something mentioned about him being banned from casinos, but I can't remember the details.

Here's a bit from the Post Gazette.

You mean when I go gamble, lose and sign-up to keep myself from being allowed back they really mean that? I will be right back...

I stumbled across the following article that states Rainey's arrest for assaulting his girlfriend was actually the third run in for him during the 2012 season. The first was driving on a suspended license in September, then the trespassing at a casino thing in October, and finally the assault charge. I find it interesting that he was only issued a ticket for driving on a suspended license. Everywhere I've lived that is a do not pass go, do not collect $200 thing.

Of course I don't know every states law but I can tell you here and in most surrounding states Driving While Suspended is an arrest, however, it is one that is cited and the person is released on a promise to appear in court. It used to be a trip to jail. The reason for the change is simple, the courts and jails were inundated with suspended drivers. The vast majority of people that get their license suspended are due to non-payment of fines. Most people who can't afford their fines can't afford to not work either and chose to drive. kind of a double edge sword. Anyhow, that is the law in a nutshell, as if anyone really cared lol

I never really thought he did anything serious enough to be kicked off the team, however, enough little things finally added up. I had some hope for him, but I don't think he will really be missed all that much. With our stable of RBs right now, he wouldn't have made this year's roster anyways.

Let's just say that after I watched a video or two of Rainey, he was added to my ...

It likely is he is a really bad dude. There could be other character issues that we are not even aware of. If I was an owner of any other team then the Steelers I would not take their cast offs such as Rainey with questionable character.

Yeah and Rainey is not really worth the risk anyway. It's not like he's Adrian Peterson.

Rainey wasn't worth the roster spot he took up. Sure, he had talent, but after a few big hits he started hesitating. He was scared of getting blown up again. He quite clearly was slowing down a little bit and overthinking things, which would make any NFL player useless. Good riddance to the guy

He had over a 1000 return yards I wouldn't say he wasn't worth a roster spot but with his off field actions he wasn't worth it.

I actually thought he was a pretty physical guy... as long as it was against a woman...

Well, I thought he added explosiveness to our return game even in the regular season, which is something we don't see much of around here. And being really good in preseason isn't worthless for rookies, I think it means something. That's why we're all so excited about Jarvis, Wheaton, and Shamarko, and some others. But I think they brutally misused him at RB (not new for this team), especially that game they decided to leave him in like he was a workhorse running back against the Browns. Hope that message Tomlin was sending to the other RBs was worth it, because it could have cost us the playoffs.

But yeah, they know him and I don't, and all the reports aren't good. I trust their judgment, I just think he showed more than enough to still be playing.

Between LSH and Felix Jones we are all set. No loss. When it comes to KO returns, at the moment, Jones is averaging 25.5 yards a return for us...Rainey averaged 26.5. Big deal.

DARN YOU, SNACK! I had almost forgotten about that game and you had to go and bring back those memories now didn't you! ;)

I was furious after that game. What the heck was Tomlin trying to prove?? That RBBC approach 'bout drove me insane last year. And that game wasn't even RBBC. It was LYBRBOTBWALWCTR! (Leave Your Best Running Backs On The Bench While A Light Weight Carries The Rock).

Didn't they go back around to Red again and they still were fumbling? At that point, why not run Rainey, he was the only one holding onto it until the one guy blew him up.
