Ok smart guy. Tell me why that a long as four , or five years ago this thing started about Watt being moved around , the only OLB asked to do all this since we started running the 3-4 since 1982?
Out of about 30 , or more different OLB played since then, why is Watt the only single one asked to do all of this, and why haven't you, yourself questioned this??
Because people heard people online talking about it, and people follow easily.
Like its not Fields fault he keeps fumbling snaps, its every center he's ever played with. LoL

 

I think everybody started going off on this stuff when Mikah Parsons started being moved all over the place. Parsons is moved everywhere along the line of scrimmage. He's a physical freak with 4.3 speed that flies all over the field.

I believe that people think Watt and Parsons are the same player, but they aren't.

Parsons was an inside linebacker with outrageous physical ability that is able to do a ton of things within a defense. His versatility has a lot to do with how effective he is because he creates mismatches with his speed and explosion. Parson's needs the deception/versatility to get the numbers he does in his prime.

Watt has always been much better at just lining up and beating multiple people across from him. He is simply better, even when teams know what he is going to do. Maybe Watt is starting to slow down, but he never needed the deception to destroy what teams were trying to do.

They are both great players, but different in what they do and how they do it. Watt has been a generational player, even with the entire NFL world knowing exactly where he was going to be because he has been just that dominant. Maybe it changes now as Graham believes moving him gives this defense an advantage.

We will see.

 

They're making sure Wilson gets on the same page as Rodgers.

 

I thought all the talk started when Garrett was moving all over the place for the Browns and had been making the push DPOY. The typical discussion happening where people try to do an apples to apples comparison between the two when they are two distinctly different players and it was a down year for Watt and they suggested moving him around to gain him a better shot at getting pressure. Naturally he was asked about moving around by the beat writers and he said staying in place was his preference.

For my money I think the only reason to talk about him moving around is to force teams to play him honestly. The chipping combined with the flat out mugging him on every rush is the biggest factor in the drop-off, followed closely by slowing with age/ injuries.

But will AR hang in pocket long enough to run deeper routes I am doubting it. He was scared last year and I don't look for it to change.

 

Rodgers' deep passing wasn't exactly stellar last season. Ok, WR was a problem, and leaky OL as well. Have to hope this offseason has corrected those. After watching Roethlisberger's final season I'm skeptical of any drastic improvement. Old QBs play not to get hurt. That's not championship football.

 

bill cowher and MT were coaches that liked to do what they do and put who they thought were the best players into set positions and leave them there for the most part.

graham seems to have more good players at one position than he has spots for and has a vision of mismatches and confusing the defense with the movement of his best players and getting the best players on the field together instead of taking one off the field to rest and another good one to replace him. another thing was using herbig from the right side where clearly he was better from the left. he doesn't want to take TJ from that side just to play herbig at limited snaps so those two will probably move around on certain plays and situations.

it comes down to different concepts from coaching as opposed to a players quality of play.

 

Uh oh, there goes those cushy feelings about a fancy new offense. Ima thinking the first month of football will be fugly:

The last time we talked to Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, on the morning before practice on Friday, he was not happy with the way his team had executed things in the second week of training camp.

After that, the Steelers piled on another turnover-filled practice on Friday, and then yet another on Saturday, he’s probably positively steaming.

“It was not our best practice by far,” McCarthy said on Friday. “We had way too many mental errors, too many missed assignments. We had seven pre-snap penalties. They’re working really hard. I mean, I thought the energy, the physicality, practicing, some things we’re asking them to do in practice. We’re getting better. They’re definitely going about it, trying to do it the right way.”

After throwing four interceptions in Friday’s rain-slicked practice session at St. Vincent College, the Steelers piled into buses to head to Latrobe Memorial Stadium for their annual night practice. They put the ball in harm’s way time and time again in that practice, as well.

It started with a pick six thrown by Aaron Rodgers on the first play of practice, with Jamel Dean taking it to the house. Will Howard and Lew Nichols botched a handoff later in that period. Kaleb Johnson dropped a toss. Jaylen Warren fumbled. In addition to the ball security issues, the Steelers had to reset the huddle once because they couldn’t get lined up correctly. They had multiple screen passes that didn’t go off well. On one scramble drill, two Steelers receivers ended up standing in exactly the same spot on the sideline. It was not precise football from the Pittsburgh offense.

I'm guessing that AR knew the O-line was not clean and I'm also guessing he knew the offensive scheme was suspect. I hope that he can build a little confidence as the season begins!

And quite frankly, it doesn't take a long time to throw it deep on a go route, but if the offensive scheme doesn't include those plays, he would have to invent that play in the huddle. That would scare me too.

 

Watt now realizes he's not the same dominant player, and can't be as stubborn as he was under the previous coaching staff.
