O'Donnell did not win the super bowl under Noll...Same thing for the rest of the team. They make the playoffs only once in the previous 7 years under Noll. They had very little experience....Not good comparaison with the team of 2007 who had super bowl experience just 2 seasons before!

He didn't win the SB under Cowher either.
Again, no cherry picking, just every single game that they coached all together.

    Cowher: 161- 99- 1, and 2 SB appearances, and 1 SB win.
    Tomlin: 201- 125- 2, and 2 SB appearances, and 1 SB win.

Only a person that chooses feelings over facts would say with those facts that one is better than the other.

Last time I checked, a team in the AFC or NFC has to win at least 2 playoff games to get to a Super Bowl. 2 games if team is #1 seed. 3 games if team is #2-7 seed.

Last I checked a team has to win enough games to get to the playoffs to win those games.
Here is a simple approach to the season.
Preseason: Get out healthy, and pick the correct players to make the 53. Nothing else matters.
Regular Season: Win enough games to make the playoffs, and hopefully 1st seed. Nothing else matters.
Playoffs: Win enough games to make the SB. Nothing else matters.

Tomlin has a slightly higher winning percentage over Cowher .628 to .623 but Cowher has a significant higher preseason percentage .571 to .421

One had a franchise QB for most of his career and one was without one for most of his career.

I dont think stats tells the whole picture anyway, most of us here got to see both coach and for me, Cowher was better.

I don't think there's any real argument to this, here on Earth One. Cowher was clearly and obviously the better coach.

As the years go by... time and circumstances will verify this.

That was a different era where playing Marty ball worked, he wouldn't win playoff games in this era with those scrubs .

13 of the 15 QB who win the super bowl during the Cowher era are in the HOF(or are future HOF)....QB was always a crucial position

Noll was still the steelers head coach when Jeff Hostetler won the super bowl.Tomlin was the head coach when Foles win the super bowl.....Johnson and Dilfer are the only one who will not be in the HOF who won the super bowl in the Cowher era...It was my point

Cowher actually game planned, fielded and prepared a competent defense that could stop the run and get 3 and outs. This would help any offense...with or without franchise QB. Tomlin failed miserably starting with AFC Championship loss to Patriots in '16 season and it continued until January of this year.
