I have been hearing from camp that Allar struggles on some of the short passes, but he looks good throwing it down the field.

 

Now we are posting clickbait on X from “Joe”

 

Expect those growing pains on short passes to continue. Drew's footwork, base, hip torque and release speed have all gotten improvement since OTAs. It is clear that Tom Arth and Mike McCarthy's methods are working.


As for if he can ever be consistent on the layup throws?! Time will tell on that one. More reps are needed.

 

Biggest camp surprise has to be Daylen Everette for me personally. I knew he had the potential to be a starting CB but his overall fundamentals were lacking; namely in his hand placement upon playing press. Doesn't seem to have nearly as many of those issues now.


Biggest improvement is easily his understanding of leverage in Off Man Coverage. He was suspect there coming out of Georgia. He has gotten better there.

 

In his defense, Allar has been reported to be much better in Training Camp than when he started out in OTAs. By no means a finished product but the progression is on the upswing for certain.

Max's footwork was among the best in the entire class. That wasn't Max's problem. His lack of displacement in the running game along with his inconsistency in his strikes during pass pro sets were.


That said, footwork is a foundational element of what it takes to be an NFL Starting OT. If you have that, the rest is definitely worth coaching up; doubly so in Max's case.


He is listed as 325lbs currently. He played moving like that at 330lbs during the season at Arizona State. Dude's lateral movement is pretty damn special indeed.

 

I would hope Muth has the big year. God knows he needs it. Dude is like a damn Corvette Z06 that keeps getting put in Comfort Mode.


His ass needs to be put in Sport Plus.

Herbig now practicing with the ILBs on pass coverage during the individual drills. And, then during the Team section Patrick Graham show off his new 4-3 Defense.

Does this formation put the Best 7 players the Steelers can bring to their front 7 on the field? In this 4-3 formation, you are paying Herbig $25 million to be a starting LB. You ask me, that is one NASTY-ASS front 7!!!

 

There's been no question about Allar's arm. It's NFL quality. The biggest knock can't even be answered until a game happens with him at QB; decision-making under pressure. Guys come into the NFL with the arm talent but that is further down the list of franchise QB traits. The order I put on QB:

1. Accuracy
2. Decision-making
3. Processing speed (ok, some might lump this with #2 but if you excel at presnap reads you might not need the elite processing speed)
4. Arm strength (if you are lacking in #2 & #3, this can make up for some of that, i.e, fastballs into tight windows)
5. Mobility (all the rage right now with running QBs. But mobile really means movement in the pocket to avoid pressure. This is where Rodgers has a problem at his age.)

Mr. Wexell isn’t the most astute beat reporter. Compared to where he was on draft day, Allar has made clear strides by August 2026 in the exact areas every rookie needs to improve: footwork (visibly better), timing and his 3-second map of the field, and keying/diagnosing defenses. His processing looked a little slow at Penn State, but he also had bad coaching and limited receivers. A lot of those “misses” were simply guys not getting open on the called plays. Now he has a true QB whisperer as coach and actual talent at receiver. He’s already making several big-time throws even with third-string guys. That has to count for something, yet most the beat writers are not focusing on that. He’s shown he can create the explosive plays that are one of the foundation's of McCarthy's offense. He just needs more live-bullet reps with the starting receivers. Pads come on today and tackling starts in preseason game one. He’s not ready to start in 2026, and he doesn’t need to be. He’s a Grade-A developmental prospect who still needs to sharpen the finer points of the position. So far I am pleased with his play.

 

howard is also building on all those things that allar is and has a better grasp of the things allar is trying to build on. good overall for the team as a whole. let the games begin. don't forget mason is building a better understanding as well under these coaches. keep 4. i'm all for that. i think it will be a huge jump for all involved under this coaching as opposed to previous years.

 

Agree on keeping all 4. I'm fearing Rodgers might not play more than a dozen games this season, the OL being the culprit. He missed one game last season but truth be told he probably should have sat out at least one more.

 

When you are starting near rock bottom like Allar it should be easy to show some progress. He needs more than to 'sharpen finer points'. He's getting a full makeover.

Gonna be interesting to see how players like Everette, Howard, Harmon, Iheanachor and others look.

 

It's ok to say yeah we will see how he continues to develop. It doesn't lessen your excitement for a player to say that and prevents the pretzel contortions needed to blunt a reporters opinion of the same player. Running into a wall full steam isnt always the best plan. There are board members still suffering from the belief that 31 other franchises and owners agreed with him that James Harrison was done, not that his opinion matched others in charge of actual teams who didn't know anyone on this board from Adam but that they all agreed with him.
