Not saying no way, but at 31, would this be a good investment for the future?

Past his prime... but he would be better than what we have now.

I didn't click on this, but read somewhere else that he wants to go to the southwest - SF, Raiders, Rams, Chargers. He's from around the Bay Area.

    This.

The Steelers are a team that should be rebuilding, but refuse to because it's not what the owner wants.

Even still, if we traded Benton I'd rather just get picks than a guy who's 31.

I don't know his specifics, but I think usually the reason that guys demand to be trades it that they want a massive contract that their current team (usually smartly) won't give them.

No, he's not a realistic option even if the Steelers wanted to make that move.

Considering we'll likely play 245 at even a higher ratio than last season, I must ask if a true NT is needed? Our IDL tend to line up between the C and G in this 'subpackage.'

He is looking to play out West. At least that is his prerference. As far as Pittsburghs interest goes?!

Highly unlikely. Pittsburgh is essentially set there at NT.

Why even bother with the 3-4 base anymore? If we're not gonna use a traditional NT like Hampton and Steed... then go to 4-3 and get big ugly fast DEs and fat, but quick DTs in the mold of Jalen Carter.

We basically do run a 4/2/5. It's technically a 2/4/5, but we rush 4 on ball defenders. Historically, it's been successful.

We have not drafted well at DL recently. We mostly drafted rotational guys with upside that haven't panned out. Hopefully, we will improve there. We drafted Harmon and Black last year, and Rubio most recently. Benton has shown flashes but not consistency.

We have drafted much better at LB though.

I tend to agree with the mindset of future player personnel additions. But the way I see it, nickel is our base.

It sounds like they will give Black the first shot at being the NT.

One of my first posts on this board in 2011 was regarding the need for a NT

I was lambasted for the idea because NTs are just 2 down players blah blah blah

Now we have a new thread saying it’s a problem

    Told you so

“You People” :smiley1: should just learn to trust what I say

If they go to a 4-3 it will solve any NT problems.

You also said much of the same about Andrew Billings circa 2016. I agreed with it though I still wanted Pittsburgh to trade up for William Jackson III at the time. Pittsburgh ended up reaching for Artie Burns.

That's what they're doing at camp, but we will see if he's the starter come opening day.
