I went on fan strike a few weeks ago until the Pirates improve the bullpen. DFAing Santana was a good move. Acquiring Marinaccio was not a good move. Why get rid of Santana and then immediately acquire Santana in another form? What next, maybe DFA Ozuna and sign Rowdy Tellez?
It’s like getting cured of an STD, then celebrating by going out and catching it again.

I guess I am still on fan strike.

The move offered no excitement for me.

Big series against those baby bears. We are throwing Jones/Skenes/Ashcraft at them. Then big Ron with his 4.79 ERA will be so happy to be in the Burgh he'll find new found abilities and save the games.

    Ron's last 7 games: 9.72 ERA. 8 innings pitched / 13 hits / 9 Earned Runs. Feeling better already;)

Sorry to burst your bubble Quad, but I'm afraid STD will be with all of us for a very very long time. There is no cure. :lolol:

Who knows, he could be Gonzo #2 who's fit in really nice this past week as a dumpster dive product from the Pale Hose Team. The other guy from that trade, the pitcher, not so much.

Anyone want to take a guess as to the exact day of Ozuna’s DFA? I say Monday, Aug 3, right at the trade deadline. Cruz is not scheduled to come off DL until Aug 7 so they won’t need a roster spot for him until then. Horwitz may be back sooner, which may lead Ozuna to the exit sooner.

A 7-1 lead after 3 innings is pretty much a tie game with these Pirates.

Now sweep Arizona and suck me back in.

I think they owe him about 5 million for the remainder of this year and some smaller buyout for next year. It would not break the bank to make the move now.
Actually the moves they made in the off season mostly worked out well. Nothing at all to be ashamed of if one didn’t. The money is already spent, a sunk cost. MLB contracts are guaranteed. Cut your (game, not financial) losses, Bob.

Pirates got an outfielder (Rodriguez) from the Orioles. Looks like he has hit well in AAA but poorly in a limited sample in the Show over three seasons. May have the dreaded AAAA label, maybe not. Jury is out. He is not one of those guys good right out of the box.
I guess he is cheap depth with options remaining.
I hope this move does not mean that Valdez’s injury is bad.

Agree, This kid arrived without much fanfare (vs Griffin, Skenes, etc) as a roster replacement for Horowitz. An amazing 5 weeks he has had. 36 RBIs in 37 games with 14 HRs and batting .340 asa starter. Wow. As far as his injured wrist, I wonder if it was already tweaked from a diving catch he made on Sunday where he seemed to land on that same wrist and was a bit slow to get up. Checking everywhere and no updates yet. Hoping this is good news.

UPDATE: Looks like no fracture and he is day to day for now with no IL duty. Hurry back Vasquez!
