Especially when in his case I think they're mostly "on air" or at best with out contact.

We know basically nothing about Howard.

    Hopefully he pans out.

It is going to come down to Howard entirely. We know what we have in Mason, and its not a whole lot. He's an okay back up... If Howard can show a level of promise, then I think Mason is getting the axe. If Howard struggles, then we will likely see him get cut and try to stash on the PS.

If he plays one series exactly how does that count as “beating”

    What if the Steelers lose

Do you happen to have rubles laying around

On a team with a competent defense Rudolph has proven he can win half his starts. His ceiling might not be much higher but that's why he is a backup.

Preseason game are complete waste of time...This is always against very vanilla defense(with a vanilla offense for your team)and this is against players who will be out of the NFL when the preseason will be over.We learn nothing about preseason, good or bad

Our 2019 defense was the best steelers defense in the last 15 years(after the Fitzpatrick trade) and this is not close....Even Delvin Hodges was able to win 3 games with this defense

If he can win half his starts that is a good backup to have

Half the starters don’t win half of their starts

It is funny, the only time I have ever heard McCarthy compliment Mason's arm was when Mason and Howard were both practicing together. :)

Having Mason throw after Howard even made Mason's arm standout.

Steelers coach Mike McCarthy indicates that the decision to have Will Howard take QB2 reps during OTAs is because veteran Mason Rudolph "has seen a lot of football" and therefore doesn't need the reps.

"Mason has impressed me. He throws the ball better than I thought."
