If that is true, why do so many players flame out trying to make the position switch?

LoL. It's because of what is ask of them . Ok I'm sure you will have a excuse for this.
TJ Watt OLB, FF 36 in 9 years.
JJ Watt DE ,27 FF in 12 years.
Remember JJ Watt was one of the best DEs ever so you can't say well he just wasn't good. The difference is, it's a different position.

I don't have an excuse but JJ does. Four seasons where he played in half or less of games.

    JJ Watt - passes def. = 70
    TJ Watt - passes def. = 57

There are a bunch of things TJ has slipped in production wise. But I don't think defending passes is one of them.

He's very good at doing this.

The elite defender / helmet assaulter TJ is usually compared with career wise has 23 PDs for his entire career.

If these people would just stop listening to other dummies they would get it right. Half the time or more they read it somewhere else and regurgitate it like it's gospel

For sure. 8% pass coverage difference is like what, 80 snaps in a season? 4-5 snaps a game? Its practically nothing.

Its not that I think DE and OLB are the same. 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB mostly are... 3-4 DE and 3-4 OLB are drastically different. So are 4-3 DE and 4-3 OLB. Its just a schematic thing based off of base defensive schemes. DE and OLB are very much different, except when comparing across different schemes. 4-3 DE are VERY similar to 3-4 OLB. Just in this particular scenario they are very close to the same. That's it.

Big fan of Cam here. Liked his dad. Like him. Little bro played on the team. Big bro carried him across the line. I'm ok with the Heywards.

LoL its practically enough to lose, or win a game.
I'm done, no matter what I show, and said with evidence, like I said earlier You, and others will believe what You want, therefore a waste of My time. No biggie. A DE, and a OLB is not the same thing.

If You tip a pass at the line its a Pass def. LoL a DT can have that, I guess DT is the same as a OLB now. LoL

Something not talked a lot about but Heyward led all DL in the NFL last season in total tackles. He's been a stud in the middle for a very long time.

How long can he defeat father time?? And is this also his last rodeo?

Which is why Cowher had a LB factory because he would just draft the best 4-3 and switch them to 3-4 and had his pick of the litter because the Steelers were one of the few 3-4 defenses then.

Especially the smaller 4-3 DE's the main "hurdle" they have to play the 4-3 DE position is removed and made a strength at 3-4 OLB.

It's not really the point I was making, but it certainly is an aspect of it. Nobody that knows anything at football compares 4-3 DE's to 3-4 DE's. It's because they don't play the same position. It is a same "job title" but the responsibilities are not the same. The job responsibilities of a 4-3 DE are very similar to the 3-4 OLB, but nothing at all like the 3-4 DE.

There is a reason the position is now called "Edge".

Safety, and CB are called Defense back field, they are not the same.
A OLB in the 3-4, and a DE in the 4-3 jobs, and responsibilities is not the same. Just because you can get one to do the others jobs doesn't make them the same position.
If You draft a college CB to play Safety in the NFL, that doesn't therefore mean they are the same position.

Even if Cam plays a great season, again, I just think bringing him back is a massive mistake. That $$$ could've been spent elsewhere. It's time to develop the young DL and Cam here slows that development. Cam had a great career here, perhaps HOF worthy. But this sentiment nonsense of ensuring guys are one helmet is a stupid business decision. Football is a young man's game and you're best Two defenders being well above 30 is a recipe for success.

Which is exactly why bringing in McCarthy is an awful idea. I stayed away from the boards most of the summer so I wouldn't talk about it as much. I won't root for him to fail. But this was a lazy hire to keep Heyward and TJ happy.
