For those of you who need others to think for you ESPN surveyed 70 execs coaches and scouts and Joey Porter Jr is not ranked in the top 10

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-top-10-cornerbacks-2026-execs-coaches-scouts

    So pay the man……….exactly what

He will be on the 53 so this isn’t Monopoly money for those having a hard time following me

Calling all paranoid trolls calling all paranoid trolls this might be about you :lollmao:

I can't give an exact. I still say 5yrs at an average of $25M-$29M per year. I mean, we're talking in opinions here as far as rank. Market value is what it is. He'll get it here or he'll get it elsewhere. I would rather he gets it here.

As a cover man, Porter is easily elite and inside the top 5..... as a tackler, he is improving every yr and is not a liability in any way, but is still not elite in that category....
He's not the best blitzer yet either (which hasn't really been necessary given our front 7)...
Overall, I see him getting around 3 yrs averaging roughly between $26 - $28 mil...
If the rest of his Overall skillset catches up to his coverage prowess, then his next extension will probably reset the market

You should have left the "Skillet" in the column. It added flavor. ;)

Being among the highest paid isn't as much about who's the best as it is about who's next. His contract is coming up and it's his turn to the pay window. I see Joey receiving somewhere in the range between $25-30M/yr - probably very close to the middle of that range, with about 40% guaranteed. Then next year, and the following year, a bunch of players, some better and some worse, will pass that number to fall into the new range. That's the way these things always go unless some crazy franchise blows the valuation out of the water like the Raiders did at Center paying Linderbaum $27M/yr which was a 50% increase in the top end salary for a C. The Steelers are never that team, which is why it makes sense for Porter to try to wait out Witherspoon and Gonzalez in case either the Patriots or Seahawks drive up the CB market.

Well that is about 3 per team

Is he one of the top 3 Steelers now

    IDK

I can think of 3 that would have a greater impact if we lost them to injury for example

In an ideal world, you build this team with good players (and no QB).

Then you get lucky and a QB falls to you (like what happened to Ben).

Then you get their entire rookie contract to have an above average QB surrounded by an above average team because an above average QB on a rookie contract is probably the biggest possible advantage you can have in the NFL. It might be the biggest advantage you can get across all cap-limited sports since the QB is so valuable and the difference in the cap hit for a QB on a rookie deal and a market level above average QB is enormous.

We basically did this with Ben. But Ben was drafted before the rookie salaries were capped. So we didn't get the massive advantage of the rookie QB contract with Ben and we still had a great run when he was on his rookie deal.

I think we have a pretty good roster right now (outside of QB). Not great, but pretty good. If we luck into a QB next draft (or if one of the lottery tickets we currently have pans out), then we should be very competitive...although the AFC is stacked with most of the good QBs in the league, so it will still be hard to win in the playoffs.

We probably shouldn't have brought Ramsey back this year IMO. Especially if the idea is for him to play S.

He gets paid to much to be a S. And he wasn't all that good at it last season.

Hopefully an off-season preparing will help him.

I don't give a dang what ESPN says. ESPN said the Ravens, and the Bills were the top teams forever. Hmm I must have missed the SBs they played in. ESPN said that college was giving us the best Qbs they ever had 13 years ago, Im still seeing many teams looking for them. ESPN has had the Steelers finishing no higher than 3 for about 5 years straight, I shouldn't even have to tell you how thats worked out. So ESPN actually knows nothing, but what is seen, and reported
