Sorsby to enter supplemental draft

Am I correct on how this works

Every team can sort of blind bid to take him in any round highest bidder gets him. Then the winning looses the equivalent round pick next year.

Otherwise he is a FA

 

Did he at least bet on his team to win?

Also now that gambling is essentially legal, does it matter?

I’d always heard the argument as being a player that gambles is gonna get in deep to the wrong kinda dudes and then they’re going to force the player to throw games or shave points or whatever.

But like is draft kings sending dudes in track suits to your house? Your kids school?

Can any college player enter the NFL's supplemental draft? Seems like a player could use this 2nd draft as a way to avoid the worst teams in football. A team that spends an early 1st round pick on a QB in the regular draft is not going to spend another 1st round pick on a QB in the supplemental draft.

 

OK, I got it now. I watched this video and they said Sorsby is going to withdraw his objection to the NCAA suspension tomorrow, thus making him eligible for the NFL's supplemental draft. Maybe???

 

so we will have 5 qb's? 3 of which we have no idea if they can play at this level. are we turning into the browns?

 

We need to find a QB and may have to draft one Rd 1 next year pending the situation but with old man Rodgers here I don’t think they want to cut Howard and we wouldn’t have the space.

A team can only make one pick at a time; supplemental draft or not.

 

He's asking what happens if two teams offer a 3rd round pick, and that's the best offer, who gets him.

 

The NFL is not required to have a supplemental draft simple because a player declares for it. The league can skip it if there are no eligible player or they don't want to have one.

You have a point with the whole does it even matter since sports betting has become a legit thing now however my understanding is that he is a compulsive gambler and was making hundreds if not thousands of bets right up until recently. The rehab stint he supposedly is going on for gambling addiction seemed like an attempt to salvage his football career and persona. So its not a matter of will he bet on football games it's a matter of when, where, and if he is so bad he bets on teams he will be playing on. It's like drafting a guy who has two knee surgeries and coming off a concussion, very high risk with low chance of reward

Yes, but.... what this specific person did falls into the realm of 'illegal gambling'. Illegal by the rules of the NCAA, and the BIG12 conference. I believe it was the BIG12 that petitioned the NCAA for him to be banned.
These entities are allowed to have their own rules on this.

I'm not going to go down the rabbit hole of all the cons related to wide open sports betting. Just take a look at the changes already made in college sports since 2018 when this all started to be 'legal'. I haven't read a single success story yet owed to sports gambling.

 

The guy most likely would have been the #2 QB in this past draft; He's going to generate interest.
As far as the Steelers go, it's not likely that they'll even have a shot as they will be too late in the selections and it's unlikely they will part ways with a 1st or 2nd round pick.
Then there is Allar and Howard.

Sorsby has the size and the arm, he also has the poise NFL teams like.
The brain? I don't know. The gambling issue reminds me of a Colt QB.
It really depends on how NFL teams feel about him, some will not care.

In a hypothetical scenario, Sorsby is there in round 3 and we are up. I don't know what happens.
Sorsby, if none of this happened, would probably be in the top 3 QB's for 2027. So I think it's value for a 3rd rounder.
But it did happen and basically college football is forcing him out as a result with all the virtue signaling.
To compound matters, I don't think there's any doubt Sorsby would quickly out perform Allar and Howard.

This is where I trust McCarthy over Omar.
McCarthy would have to really believe in Sorsby and of course the planets would have to align just right, which I doubt happens.

 

I think it might be hard to put a 3rd in...at least without really doing a deep dive psychologically on the addiction. To me a risk like that would be more like a 5th or something. But he's a QB and we don't have a QB (for next year), so maybe bidding higher wouldn't be crazy. If the team thinks he can keep his **** together.

I think it would be better for us if he was suspended for a year in the NFL. We're already going to have a "difficult" decision to make at QB since we're very unlikely to keep 4.

I think if he's suspended all year, he wouldn't take up a roster spot. So we'd get to carry him without putting him on the PS.

 

My guess is that Goodell would figure out a way to suspend him for a year so that going to the supplemental draft isn't a way for him to dodge the suspension the NCAA wants to put on him.

I don't think suspended players count on the roster.

So if a team picks him, they probably send him to some kind of rehab facility for a year (or whatever) to protect their investment. Then he becomes unlocked for the roster next year.

At least, that's the situation that would probably be best for us.
