I followed the game up till the 5th inning when it was still 2-1 Pirates and Skenes. I later walked by the bar at the restaurant I was having dinner at (Sliced Elk New York with a mushroom sauce - wonderful) and saw the score was 2-2 in the 7th. I thought - not too bad until I looked closer and saw a "1" before the 2 for the Brooklyn Bums.

What is that saying, something like one man's trash is another man's gold?? Well what you call wonderful I'd call disgusting. Hate mushrooms and guessing Elk taste like Deer which I'm not a fan of. Friends tell me they taste gamey, whatever that taste like. Cows and chickens may not be pretty creatures but they sure do taste good.

I always feel bad for the humans of the hunter/gatherer era. Cows would have been so easy to hunt;)

    Does Elk taste like Deer???

Not at all. Slightly different than steak with same exact texture, extremely tender, at least the times I've ordered it. I like it better than venison but like venison as well. Ostrich is very good as is bison. Also love duck, veal, rabbit and squab, although there's not much meat there with squab. But it sounds like you wouldn't care for or venture into any of these but I'll bet there are a whole bunch of hunters on this MB (not me) who probably catch them and like to eat them. Nothing wrong though with just beef, chicken, turkey and pork. So many variations just with them. My first wife couldn't stand fish or me cooking it indoors. She hated the smell (so she said). But wouldn't hesitate to open a can a tuna fish, one of the smelliest fish you can find IMHO where even the empty cans in the trash smell up the whole house. Kind of like the Bucs this past week. Oh well. Enjoy your Italian food on your upcoming trip, they have some interesting items that you don't find in our US Italian restaurants.

Elk taste more like beef than deer
Deer meat is excellent with 10% fat added to it
Chicken is the dirtiest animal on the planet
    Eats its own feces
    But chicken meat is delicious
All in all the meat depends on how you get it processed
Next time you get deer meat ask if fat was added and how much
    I love deer ground meat

Elk tastes like deer not bad but not beef

I go to NM and the mountain folks serve elk burgers. I eat them but would not buy them. Not so much gamey just dry tough and flavorless. Kind if like making a burger out of cheap rump roast rather than chuck and brisket.

I don’t think there are any steaks it is all ground together because I guess an elk rump is three steps below a beef rump

But it is good if you are feeding your family

Shohei Ohtani is widely considered the most talented player in baseball history, but the title of "best ever" remains debated. He is the only player to achieve elite status as both a hitter and a pitcher, a feat not seen since Babe Ruth a century ago, but performed at a much higher level in the modern era. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Arguments for and against his GOAT status center on a few key points:

    Why Ohtani is the Greatest
    • Unprecedented Two-Way Play: He dominates simultaneously in areas that normally require two completely different athletes. He has recorded multiple MVP awards, 50-homer seasons, historic stolen base records, and elite pitching statistics. [1, 2]
    • Era of Specialization: Ruth played in an era with a significantly smaller talent pool and without modern analytics, video study, and specialized training, making Ohtani's accomplishments even more remarkable. [1, 2]
    • Raw Toolset: Former greats like Derek Jeter have noted that Ohtani possesses the greatest raw toolset ever assembled on a baseball field. [1]

    The Argument for Traditional Legends
    • Career Longevity: Traditional legends like Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Barry Bonds played at an elite level for two decades. While Ohtani has had the most dominant stretch in history, purists argue he needs a longer career to surpass the lifetime totals and longevity of these Hall of Famers. [1, 2, 3]
    • Single-Role Mastery: Others argue that while Ohtani is a spectacular blend, specialists who hold all-time records in single categories (like Barry Bonds in home runs or Cy Young in pitching) still hold the definitive crowns for pure hitting or pure pitching. [1, 2]
You can explore comprehensive ESPN statistical comparisons of his historical run versus other all-time greats, or check out expert roundtable discussions on CBS Sports regarding the definition of "greatest" vs. "best." [1, 2]

Probably one of the few games this season where Bucs come back like that. In true Pirate fashion they tried to give it away in the 9th.

Well at least somebody else’s bullpen imploded for once.
    Tyler Callahan hit two out!
It is a known phenomenon that a player who has waited a long time in the minors for his shot in the show will exceed his expected offensive level for half a year or so. For want of a better name I call it the Al Pedrique effect. Maybe Callahan is doing that. He was buried in the Reds’ farm system for a good while.

The few times I had Elk out it tasted more like beef than venison, possibly due to the mushroom gravy poured over it that might have been beef based? I really like it. Very lean, no fat/grizzle. This one below from Tuesday night was called "Elk-New York" on the chalkboard as a special. A week earlier I was at a great little steakhouse in Lone Pine CA that has Elk Medallions all the time on their menu but they were out with no date for it coming back. They said it's somewhat of a seasonal entree. But just 5 nights later found it at Whiskey Creek in Bishop CA as a special of the day. :thumbs up:

It was med rare as they suggested and how I order all my beef steaks/prime rib including burgers (at decent sit down places). And the good news, you don't hear the Greenies running around with their hair on fire about Elk farts. :lolol:

    Getting drubbed 8-4.
Looks like the injuries are stacking up. Cruz and Konnor out, bullpen ineffective, Ozuna can no longer hit and runs like he is giving two clones of Casey Hampton a piggyback ride. Hank Davis could not find the Mendoza line with a telescope.
Looked pretty hopeful for a while and may again, but at this moment they look like a .500 team. Maybe.

Uh-oh closing in on under .500. Lasted longer then I thought they would. Maybe they will hang around .500 a little longer but it's gonna happen.

    We'll get em in 2028.
