I don't doubt it. I didn't mean that it was an indication that the show was bad, just that it's less appealing because there will be no further episodes.

The way things are going... the only TV shows that will be available to watch are Gunsmoke and Big Valley re-runs. :lolol:

It's my least favorite. I don't hate it because I like all of the Star Trek shows I've seen.
The original so far is my favorite.

Here's my order of Star Trek TV series from best to worst...

    Deep Space Nine
    The Next Generation
    Voyager
    Enterprise
    Strange New Worlds
    Original
    Discovery

These are all with 3 or more seasons... Starfleet Academy is too new to rank and there's a good chance it will be picked up by Netflix or Hulu for season 3 and beyond

Strange New Worlds may overtake Enterprise on my list... like what I've seen so far

    2. The Next Gen
    3. Enterprise
    4. Voyager , and the rest in no particular order with Deep Space 9 the last.

The Original series seems cheesy to me. I was born after it was cancelled. Love the movies with original cast... I, II, III, IV, V and VI. The even numbered movies were better than the odd...LOL

Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan is one of the greatest SCI FI movies ever created as far as I'm concerned.

And the whole back story of V'Ger creating an originally benign, docile Borg species in the delta quadrant (long before it's encounter with Kirk's Enterprise) is very interesting and rumored to be explored in future Star Trek series.

No doubt. Season one of Westworld is as good as it gets. Rare example of what you can do with great writing and intelligent structure and pacing.

It is cheesy yes, but that is to be expected given when it was made. They created an original and iconic show in the face of all the problems that accompany scifi shows. And they did a great job of showing humanity's traits and challenges within the storylines, without being preachy or heavy handed. I've marathoned the show many times over the years, and some of the episodes are damn funny, but the spirit it was made in and the effort required to do what they did is impressive. And the characters are all relatable and likeable.

Funny thing too with Star Trek in general is it has many flaws in things like their doctrines. There's no way a Captain of a starship, for example, would risk his hide on an away team unless it was purely diplomatic. But all those flaws in the show are actually part of the allure.

Next Generation was very well done too for its time window. They succeeded in many of the same things the original achieved, but with updated special effects and makeup. Great characters and crew, spirit of Star Trek in the exploration, etc. DS9 I also enjoyed for the same reasons, though it was a station. But unfortunately I think the show lost its way after those two. I've tried to watch the more recent shows but they just feel like they're missing something.

The evolution and establishment of the Prime Directive was interesting starting with Enterprise series. There was no Prime Directive for that time period... and Archer and crew violated it every chance they got and didn't know they were doing so. :lolol:

I mean, even the Original opening monologue says it all: "....to boldly go where no man has gone before".

I was mulling this the other day. There are only perhaps a few dozen scifi movies/shows that break new ground in the genre. I can still remember sitting in a theater for the beginning of the movie "The Alien", with those letters slowing appearing across the screen while that eerie music was playing. But, where it really break new ground was the lighting effects,... strobes, shadows, static, grainy transmissions. I read where there was plenty of improvisation in the dialogue as well.

That's all I watch. If I'm not watching football I'm watching the channel with all of the old time westerns.

I have to admit I totally missed the boat on this when it came out.

But about 5 years or so after it came out, I was able to appreciate the glory of this classic.

Dude it was made in 1966. If it wasn't as great as it was, as iconic as it was , as rule breaking as it was, there wouldn't be any of these other Star Trek shows. No characters in Star Trek had as great on show character relationship then Kirk, Mccoy, and Spock.
I remember growing up playing Star Trek, and arguing with friends who was going to be Kirk , who would be Spock, and so on, hell we would fight about it. We had the phasers, and the coms that were walkie-talkies that looked like their communicators ,I never played any of the other characters, by the time they came out , I was grown up.

I know when it was made. And I give Gene Roddenberry and Lucille Ball full credit for the success of later SCI FI giants such as the Star Wars franchise. Those 2 people opened doors and possibilities that were not available before the first Star Trek TV series in the '60's. George Lucas should count his lucky stars and be thankful for Roddenberry, Ball... and what they pioneered over a decade before 1977 and the release of A New Hope. Without Star Trek... there would be NO Star Wars. And that is the God Damn truth.

Incredible movie. I took my family to see it when it came out because of my Star Trek and general nerdiness and we all had such a great time. Iconic all around with the way they encapsulated the Star Trek fandom condition without calling it Star Trek. Also one of the few movies I can watch over and over and enjoy just as much every time I see it.

Lucille Ball's production company Desilu rolled the dice on Star Trek. Glad they did. There's a good documentary on Netflix about Lucille Ball and Desilu.

Steelers need to "roll the dice" on Howard and/or Allar. :lolol:
