I like the first car thread hijack. Mine was a 1974 Mercury Comet, red. It looked the one in this picture I grabbed online. The car wasn’t interesting, but the way I lost it was. It was stolen from the parking lot where I worked at the time by an escaped prisoner, used in a bank robbery, and crashed and totaled in the ensuing police chase. The guy tried to get off an exit ramp at high speed but split the difference between the ramp and the highway. The car flew down to the road below, and when it hit, the axels snapped and all 4 wheels popped outwards 90 degrees. They looked like flotation devices. Maybe the funniest thing about it all was that when the police were calling around to find out who/where the owner was, the message was misinterpreted and I had people telling me that the police were looking for me in connection with a bank robbery. Tough day for a college kid at his summer job….

I have a friend who parked his car in a Chicago garage and one of the attendants borrowed his car to go do an armed robbery of a liquor store. Then he put the car back in the garage. Next morning the police knocked on my friends door.

Like in Ferris Bueller when the garage attendants take the car for a joyride? That was in Chicago too.

This is not my 1978 Pontiac Formula Firebird. This is a picture I found that matches mine pretty well. I had the white seats with black carpet.

This was my first car. It had 100,000 miles on it, but oh my, the fun I had in that car.

I had the T-tops, but they leaked so badly that rain used to pour into the back footwell and fill it up. I ended up punching holes in the floor so the water could drain out. I eventually got new stripping and eliminated much of the leaking. I replaced the steering wheel with a racing steering wheel, red carpet, bitchin' seat covers, and of course....the Formula sticker across the windshield that easily gave me 20 more horsepower!

I kept the car looking good for years, but I had a bunch of issues with it. I ended up selling it to a friend of my father's who was getting it for their son. I saw it in a parking lot about a year after I sold it. It had been destroyed. The interior was torn apart. The outside had dents and dings everywhere. It was rusting and the paint was being abused.

I nearly wept right on the spot. Man I loved that car...

Um, I listed some aspects of coaching that have nothing to do with defense. How nice of you to follow along.

    Playoff Record

    11-11 (.500)

    8-12 (.400)

    McCarthy has the edge

    Coaching Challenges

    52-56 (~48%)

    41-96 (~43%)

    McCarthy has the edge

    Coaching tree?
    McCarty again.

    Any questions?

I admit, a lot of the older cars look cool, engines look cool. They had far less systems and computers around em, made them look more imposing. It helped they were made steel, iron and aluminum and no or few plastics.

I also admit, riding in one of these older cars is fun for about five minutes. Then you realize how awful the ride quality and noise is...and while there are drawbacks to modern vehicles, the ride quality and comfort on the cheapest of cars today far exceeds that of many of the best or poshest cars of 50, 60 and 70 years ago. Those older cards are like riding on top of an old washboard and wearing noise-cancelling headphones somehow set to REVERSE for excessive noise. Haha.

That is a cool looking car though, picturing a white top on it...very cool.

I see You left off 2 HOF Qbs, and a rookie of the year Qb, and he could only make one SB. Yet the HC you think is stupid made 2 with one Qb. LoL

After my 1st car, I never owned a car again. Only Jeeps, and pickups.
This is my 3rd ride, again its not mine, but it's just like mine except the colors. Mine was midnight blue, and silver, and mine had fog lights on the roll bar, and on the bottom of the front.

This is me, but with SUV's only. 4x4 pickups (F-150's, etc) are unaffordable these days for those who don't have $20K laying around for a down payment. Even used 4x4 pickup trucks are freakin' ridiculous.

My first car was a Mazda 626, 5-speed sedan, after college. Fun to drive with an awesome stereo system, but not very practical for my hobbies (skiing, road cycling, gravel/mountain biking). Bought a used '95 Jeep Cherokee after that... and have had AWD or 4x4 SUVs ever since, with Class III receiver hitch for bike rack.

I got a Toyota 4door Tacoma 4×4 , and a GMC 4×4 now. I would like to get another Jeep, but I don't like all the stuff a new Jeeps has in it. I like to be able to work on my Jeeps.

Slow down. Ben Roethlisberger won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2004 — the year before Mike Tomlin was even hired. I’m not handing out participation trophies. I’m simply stating facts: one coach has a better playoff winning percentage than Tomlin, wins a higher percentage of red-flag challenges, and has a stronger coaching tree. You got the Mr. STD? And I don’t need to remind anyone who beat who in the big game.

We haven’t won a playoff game since January 2017 — nine years and counting. I’m giving us a realistic 50% chance of winning at least one in the 2027 playoffs. The offense sucked last year, ( we finished 25th in yards ) but we’ve got a new coach with a better scheme, and things are coming together. Your turn — what do you think our chances are? Or are you gonna duck my questions again?
