Anyone with decent comprehension will realize he just backed up my point, that he started spouting that stuff AFTER he signed with the Seahawks.

That Steelers offense would have looked a hell of a lot more appealing with both Pickens and Metcalf, which they had if they so chose.

I wasn't trying to imply that Tomlin never saw value in signing quality players or pulling off a blockbuster trade for a really good one. My point was they have a blind spot when it comes to evaluating their roster and rolling with guys who maybe shouldn't be getting playing time because they evaluate the rest of the players as being more than capable of overcoming other areas.

Love Washington, glad they locked him up and Herbig, two of my favorite Steelers.

I am quite happy actually. Was a true bummer when he went down last season. The entire Offense took a hit overall as well.

Not saying the Steelers would have defeated Houston but Washington would have at least given Aaron another weapon to use.

But, um, back to the lecture at hand....

This is a pretty solid deal all the way around for the Steelers. Get a guy that could explode at a reasonable price. Even if he doesn't....his skill set at that price is kinda right in the market rate slot.

Also short enough that if his knee explodes or he super-sizes his way out of the position....not locked in.

So basically all he has is ad misericordiams with hasty generalizations?!

    Seems to fit.

And it's also worth remembering that Darnold signed a week before Metcalf did (March 13 vs 20).

So there was no time were Darnold could look at the Steelers offense and say "man, it's great that they have Metcalf and Pickens". The Steelers when pitching him would have said something like "We have Pickens, who we think is a head case and are going to trade. And we're also hoping to trade for DK Metcalf." Assuming they had good talks with SEA and the Metcalf camp at that point.

Of course, then Darnold might have looked at SEA and said..."Holy ****! Their WR corps is so good that they're trading Metcalf because they don't think they can give him enough work. That's way better than a guy the Steelers are actively trying to get rid of and the potential of getting Metcalf".

I wanted us to have 2 NFL WRs in Pickens and Metcalf for the brief period both were under contract with the Steelers too.

But in reality, I don't think we would have acquired Metcalf if we were going to keep Pickens. And the contract (cash or cap) didn't have anything to do with why we got rid of Pickens. It was pretty clear that the team reached the end of their rope with him. Personally, I think he would have been much less of a problem if we had a QB who could have thrown him the ball...and if he played with any other playmakers on offense so he wasn't the only person opposing defenses had to worry about. We put D Johnson in the same position...and it seems to have (almost) literally driven him insane.

And once we adopted the A Smith offense, we were all in on only having one NFL WR. Which I agree was really, really stupid in the modern NFL.

Especially on a team that only had an OK (certainly not great) running game. I could maybe get the one WR offense on a team like the Rats where you have the best RB in at least a generation and an elite rushing QB. But Rodgers is pretty much the opposite of Lamar in terms of mobility (even though Lamar is older and less inclined to run as he once was). And while I liked the Warren / Gainwell combo, I don't think anyone would take them over Henry + anyone you could find of the scrap heap (even Gainwell...who we found on the scrap heap).

Thats what I think it was, whether Darnold would have came here or not is irrelevant, Steelers weren't interested and had nothing to do with cap space.

It depends on if they move Benton off of NT, he could play more DT once Heyward is gone.

What is so difficult to follow? I said that Darnold's comments about wanting to play for Kubiak came after he got his money. He responded by posting an article with comments by Darnold that came after he signed with the Seahawks.

My point is inarguable among the sane. The lack of a second quality receiver crippled that offense all season. At one point, they had both Pickens and Metcalf. They chose not to keep that and paid the price.

You have no idea if that had to do with cap space or not.
