Jones has bad outing but a walk-off by Reynolds keeps those battling Bucs over .500.

Well Steel, they got a W and Jones was throwing in three digits. Sloppy, but he got some rust knocked off him.
I think he should be OK.

Fun game yesterday even if they blew a big lead. Keller gave up 7 earned runs.

Last 7 seasons Bucs finished under .500. We are going to be over .500 going into June. I wonder if this is the first time during that span we entered the month of June over .500????

    Pirates up 9-0
Going to the top of the 6th
See if that is enough runs for our spectacular or Special BP

I'm calling it early, BUCS sweep Twins! 9-2 lead with 3 to go. Ashcraft kicking some ass, 11 SO's, and I'm sure the BP will hold the lead. Bucs will head into the month of June 4 games over .500.

If the Bucs do blow this game I'll walk back to Pittsburgh. Not sure anyone will get that reference.

In shocking news the BP gets it done. Bucs sweep. 5-2 homestand. Bucs head into June still relevant in a strange NLC Division.

Sure hope Jones knocks the rust off and comes back solid. Be a decent starting staff. Can't see Chandler getting any better. We could have Skenes, Keller, Ashcraft, Jones and Moldzinski.

Mold is now demoted to BP
How quick we give up on a young Chandler
See how your savior Jared Jones does
    Can’t wait until
    Seth Hernandez arrives
Although our SP isn’t the problem
BP needs fixed if we are going to be a playoff team
7 run lead isn’t safe with our BP

The Pittsburgh Pirates are actively making moves to bolster their bullpen (BP). The bullpen has been a noted weakness, and the team is making roster adjustments to solidify late-inning performances. [1, 2, 3]
The Pirates' primary moves and changes to the bullpen include:
    • Internal Shakeup: Following Jared Jones' return to the starting rotation, the Pirates moved Carmen Mlodzinski to the bullpen to serve as a multi-inning, high-leverage bulk reliever. However, Mlodzinski was unexpectedly placed on the restricted list days after the move. [1, 2]
    • Roster Churn: The team designated righty Justin Lawrence for assignment and optioned righty Isaac Mattson to Triple-A Indianapolis. [1, 2]
    • Prospect Call-Ups: To replace these arms, they recalled top prospect Wilber Dotel and added left-handed pitcher Evan Sisk to the relief corps. [1, 2]
    • Future Outlook: With the bullpen continuing to experience volatility, general manager Ben Cherington is expected to continue utilizing roster flexibility and exploring the trade market as the season progresses. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Could you tell me which specific relievers you'd like to see the Pirates target, or are you looking at their current pitching depth chart? I can give you more details on available trade targets.

Mlod was not happy at all about being moved to BP
Probably restricted coz he wants traded
    Adding
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed right-handed pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski on the restricted list on May 31, 2026, after he informed the team he was not mentally or physically ready to pitch in his new bullpen role

I have no special knowledge of this, but I would speculate that Mlod’s contract is written with incentives for number of starts, which would cost him lettuce if he is in a bullpen role and has no starts. That may he why he is upset.
Best way to handle it, if that is in fact the case, would have been to go to the pen and give 100%, while negotiating some change in the contract.

    Once again, just guessing.

Pirates currently on track to win 86 games. They are on the verge of adequacy, meaning that if they can get into a one game playoff scenario, with their starting pitching I like their chances.
If the Lumber Company Pirates (Stargell, Hebner, Oliver, Zisk, Sanguillen, etc.) had pitching like this they would have won 120 games.

Now that O'Hearn has returned, the Pirates need to bury Ozuna on the bench. Horwitz and O'Hearn need to play every day.

They need the offensive boost even more with Konner Griffen on the IL. The Pirates are saying they expect it to be a short-term absence. Hopefully, that is the case. If he has any sort of serious injury and they let him play through it, heads should roll.

If the Pirates had game 1 of a playoff series and could set their rotation. I’d start Braxton Ashcraft over Paul Skenes. And that’s not at all crazy.

OK I'll give him a chance against Astros tonight. Right now he is 1-6 with a 4.85 ERA.

Skenes is going to go against Astros ace, Arrighetti who has a 7-1 record and a 1.34 ERA. Then we give Jones his second start since returning.

Very possible Astros sweep us. Then we go into Atlanta with Dodgers coming into PNC after that.

Could get ugly. Hope to re-visit this post and say I was dead wrong.

Next 9 games our gut check time for Bucs. Astros 7-3 last 10 games and then 6 games against two best teams in NL. If Bucs come out of this 5-4 I will start really believing.

My prediction 2-7. Years of sucking keep me always waiting for the bottom to drop out.

    Prove me wrong boys!

Bad time for Griffin to hit the DL. He's been improving since the start and has been awesome on the base paths. May have a chance against former Bucco Mike Burrows tonight - he has an ERA even worse than Bubba's and only a 3-6 record. The Bucs are 1 game over .500 on the road so far and the Astros are under .500 at home. Bucs have a chance tonight even with Bubba provided the O doesn't go to sleep. BA against Bubba on the road is .198. Pretty decent with a plethora of K's. Hope springs eternal. The other games and upcoming series will be brutal.

Bucs trade relief pitcher Justin Lawrence to Twins for cash. He really sucked this year after a really good 2025. While the others have taken turns sucking this year, he was consistently bad. Santana is approaching Lawrence's level but still has some promise after an awesome 2025. Soto and Montgomery have been bright spots.

Buccos need to wheel and deal for a quality closer
    If there is one available
Maybe someone down in the minors
Maybe since Dotel was called back up he is improved
Plus Mlod going to BP may energize the pen
    Let’s hope so
