Agreed. There is no way they would have gotten Verse, a first-round pick and two day-two selections for Watt after the way his play declined in 2024, which is even more reason why giving him that massive contract was stupid.

 

The Watt contract was about business and selling tickets more than it was about football IMO.

But we did get bent over a barrel on the contract IMO. Lost on basically every dimension of the deal (APY, SB, contract length...)

 

Steelers fans, like most NFL fans, root for laundry. They were going to sell tickets whether they still had Watt or not.

 

I didn't even really look at Verse yesterday.

This is a good deal for CLE IMO.

I also think it's smart that they seem to be trying to set up a competitive window that opens up as Lamar and Burrow get older

 

I also think Steelers fans are more spoiled than other fan bases.

If we have a couple years where we're out of playoff contention by the middle of the season (i.e. the Browns), I think it will hurt revenue.

Look at where we are now. With so many complaining that we make the playoffs consistently.

Personally, I'd be OK with a rebuild. But I'm assuming that the 1st attempt would be at least moderately successful. But I don't think Rooney's itching to test to see if current Steelers fans can go through an era like the 80s. And even that wasn't too bad when you compare it to places like Buffalo between Allen and Kelly. Or Cleveland from before there was an NFL to today.

We are spoiled, but I think most of us are also smart enough to understand moving Watt if they got a decent return. To be fair, maybe they tried and didn't get enough in return, but I think that is unlikely.

I predicted 7-10 last year.... was off by 3 games. I predicted 12-5 in 2023... Pickett's 2nd year.
