I guess eventually the Browns got tired of him wanting a new contract every year.

Hopefully this future 1st round pick will be as effective as most Browns 1st round picks.

If we could have done this deal for Watt, I would have done it. When your a team without a QB, having 2x 1st round picks in a draft that's supposed to have a good QB class is a good thing.

Yeah they're on a whole different level in terms of building their depth chart. Highest standards imaginable. Verse is a good young Edge, but he didn't make a year two move to being elite so the Rams dealt him for an Edge who is elite. Just like with Goff being replaced by Stafford.

I really can't recall any team in this league making moves like they do. It's almost absurd. But they're gonna need to win it all in Stafford's remaining time, and that's hard to do.

    It's basically a win/win for both teams....
The rams get a top 3 edge on a win now team... Garrett gets an offense he can actually cheer for...

The browns still get a dominant edge defender that's still on his rookie contract on an already solid defense, and an extra 1st rd pick next yr and extra picks the following 2 seasons...

Somehow, the browns are still gonna brown

This makes sense for both teams. Rams are trying to win before Stafford totally physically disintegrates. Browns timeline to winning much of anything is another couple of years.

Both teams get guys that fit their timelines.

Browns tanking while gathering draft picks to trade up in 2027 for first round QB?

Seems this Browns trade could turn out bad for us next draft.

Browns fan here gents. Love this board. People are almost livid in Cleveland. However, the overall notion is that they’re building for the dome, and will trade the farm for the rights to draft Arch Manning (Browns owner is a Tennessee guy and good friends with the Manning family. As for the trade, the Browns, at best could have hoped for 7-9 wins this upcoming season, we weren’t winning enough with Myles so why not look to the future. Verse is 6 years younger, 2 pro bowls and was a defensive roy. And played in a much better division than the one we all occupy.
The first rounder in the next draft, figures to be a late pick. However, if Stafford has an off year, it could be a high pick.
Personally, I’ll take a wait and see approach.
I’m not a season ticket holder, but would not renew if I were one. This team destroyed all of the progress and development that they had accomplished since 2017 when they got rid of Baker. They then followed up that ridiculous decision by completing the worst trade in sports, not just NFL, but in all of sports history when they brought in Deshaun Watson.
Pittsburg Steelers fans, Bengals fans, and Ratbird fans should be happy with the Myles trade for the upcoming season, but I can’t make a confident prediction for the 2027 season.
Thanks guys,we’re all getting closer to football season.

Not trying to dump on your team but given the Manning history, I cant see them allowing Arch to go play for the Browns. They might be testing the strength of that friendship!

Let's ask ourselves a question because either Highsmith or Herbig is the odd man out. Is it better to trade either of them for a 2nd tomorrow, or let Herbig walk next spring and only get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick as a return? Sell high, buy low.

I think Verse is an underrated return piece here. He's a really good player on the good side of the age curve. And he's probably not going to command top 2 or 3 money. Then he gets paid right when Watson finally comes off of their books, so the timing is much better for the Browns. Not to mention the draft capital that goes into their next good team.

I hate to say it but I actually kind of like the move for the Browns here.

I posted about this in another thread. This is a win win for the Rams all the way around. What people are forgetting about the contract is that Stafford as a void out year per Sportrac.

Sean McVay plans to have Ty Simpson red shirt both seasons in 2026 and 2027. Yes, he will be 25 by the time he starts but the two year waiting period will be well worth it. Don't forget that Ty Simpson only had one full season of College Experience and is raw overall in the basics, fundamentals and principles of the position. Sitting behind Stafford while being coached up will aide him in the long run.

As for the Rams of today?! Myles Garrett and that front?! Man... good luck Seattle... you will need it.

I'd like this move for any team but the Browns. It's great return as if it goes perfectly, they'll have 4 solid starters and money to spend for another player or two. It's just the Browns can draft well and put together solid rosters, on paper, but can never put it together on the field.

Having a Franchise QB greatly helps to. I myself don't see Matthew Stafford as a First Ballot HOF Player but he is a Franchise QB. Should he win another Super Bowl?! Gonna be hard to keep him out on his inaugural year.

    This.

Rams have made out like bandits this offseason. If anything, I was convinced that the Eagles would trade away the likes of Jalen Carter or two 1sts along with Jordan Davis to nab Myles. Seattle was another team I was considering as well but not completely for the main compensation would have been draft capital.

I’m glad he’s gone just so I don’t have to listen to the announcers droll over the racist piece of **** twice a year when the Steelers play the Browns

I sort of disagree with this take. At least that it has to be done now.

Watt is in a bad contract and probably has very little trade value because of it. But he becomes cut-able in 2028.

Unless he's really bad this year, I think Highsmith still has similar trade value next offseason. Highsmith is signed through 2027.

They're not really paying a QB right now so they can afford to have a little bit of wacky stuff going on. The cap isn't an issue here.

So I think you pay Herbig regardless. And I don't think he'll be all that expensive. He has flaws and he hasn't been a starter.

Then in 2026 you need to figure out:
    • Am I trading Highsmith in the 2027 offseason?
    • Is Sawyer good enough to let me cut Watt in 2028 offseason? And if not what's my plan there
And in 2027 you figure out:
    • Am I cutting Watt?
    • Am I paying Sawyer?
And your OLB rotation looks something like:
    • 2026: Watt, Highsmith, Herbig, Sawyer
    • 2027: Watt, Herbig, Sawyer, option: Highsmith
    • 2028: Herbig (assuming 3 yr deal), Sawyer
And if you end up paying Sawyer, you have a foundation into something like 2031 or 2032.

Highsmith is the one you eventually move on from. Can't give him a 3rd contract. BUT, given that he's signed through 2027, I don't think you have to do it immediately.

That is interesting. I now wonder if the reason the Browns had to get rid of Kevin Stefanski is because he would not tank the 2026 season and intentionally lose games for a better draft pick? Some coaches have lines they simply will not cross.

This Tanking could explain the Head Coach hire of Todd Monken. A complete head scratch of a move to replace their 2-Time coach of the year.

Only in Cleveland; it is like the movie Major League coming to life; where the owner is trying to pull all the strings. :)
