They really need him to be WR4 this season and get on the same page as Rodgers.

The more I think about it, the more I see Roman Wilson making the roster and Kaleb Johnson either being traded or cut all together. Eli Heidenreich isn't going anywhere barring something truly tragic or unforeseen and Travis Homer provides superior Special Teams value. Why is that important?!

Pittsburgh lost well over 1000 total snaps in Special Teams experience this past season. Many people didn't like Pittsburgh's Day Three selections but the likes of Kaden Wetjen, Riley Nowakowski, Robert Spears Jennings and Eli himself all point to more than just acquiring depth. All of them will play a pivotal role in Special Teams due to the talent drain that unit took. As such, some names have to be left out. Chief among them is Kaleb Johnson.

It stinks given how high I was on him myself. However, this is a new regime with a new focus. Kaleb is truly on the outside looking in. That leaves Roman Wilson with a greater shot... provided he stays healthy and showcases significant improvement.

lots of size in that room. lots of good competition. skowronek (very good gunner on ST's), wetjen (PR and KR for ST's), AT perry (size and has started in the NFL), bernard (new draft pick by coach and team), cole burgess, eli heidenreich (duel purpose player), brandon johnson (good size and has been around a couple of years), brandon smith (good size), roman wilson ( work cut out but working at it) size is fairly small compared to the others. uphill battle i believe for him. hope for the best but he may have to be head and shoulders better than the competition.

Roman Wilson is making this team. He’s looked impressive since escaping Tomlin’s doghouse. Kaleb Johnson is a long shot to make the 53 man roster barring injuries to the running back room. I’m very high on Spears as a special teams contributor. The Steelers front office did a smart job adding useful pieces in the draft.

If he doesn't then buh-bye to his Steelers career. Time to move on. Honestly, after a redshirt rookie season we should have seen more last year and didn't. Perfect opportunity on a receiver starved team but instead the Steelers had to bring in couple of stiffs from retirement.

    Hey, I have too!

But honestly, I've been about ready to give up on him b/c it has seemed like the Steelers don't see enough in him to use him, but I'm interested to see what happens with McCarthy.

    IDK

In one game they threw to him 5 times (edited) 4 receptions

Then they brought in the couple of stiffs from retirement and quit using Roman

Is that on Roman or on Rodgers/Coaches

I don't know. Is there any information on that decision? I'm sure there were articles written about Roman not being on the field. But, I seldom believe what I read online.

I'm hoping he comes on and makes this team/offense better. I hope he becomes dominant. I think his injuries have held him back so far. Maybe?

I haven't seen much out of him. But it's a new coaching philosophy so we will see what he does with another opportunity.
We do need him and I am certainly hoping he takes advantage of this.

Really hard to say. I agree that you can not believe what you read many times.

You and I both used to hang out at a Steelers spot where many people were downright giddy when Wilson got drafted. And some of those folks were right often about draft prospects. Large portions of the overall draft internet agreed. So I think it is reasonable to assume the talent is there with Wilson. I do not think he lacks what is needed to play in the NFL.

Personally, I think it was/is a combination of factors. Injuries are one. The second is the UMich factor. There are a lot of guys that come out of UM super hyped up because of the success of the program and then kinda just "meh" in the NFL or take a bit of time to get going. For recent WRs....Nico Collins. It wasn't until his 3rd year that he broke out in a big way. JJ McCarthy looked great in school and now looks totally overwhelmed. I wonder if Michigan's offense is excellent at the NCAA level but maybe does not have enough concepts that translate to the pro level - -leaving it's draftees with a long ramp up? Or, and this happens often too, drafted guys are just able to be physically better than their opponents each Saturday that they do not actually learn their craft. Then, on Sundays, when everyone is on scholarship....they have to learn to be technically proficient enough to succeed in practice and games?

Again....I have no idea.....but Wilson seems to have worked more on his craft this off-season....or, at least, his agent is putting that out there.

Rodgers made the comment last season about 'everyone being in the film meetings'. I took the comment to mean, they were all there and part of that, so why is there confusion on game day. I don't think he meant just Roman, but it probably included Roman.
This is why the great players are smarter than their opponent more often than the better athletes. 'Your route is A, but if the defense does THIS, your route becomes B. And the receiver and QB both have to be on that same page for the play to work. I think for Rodgers, he only allows a few mess ups before he just no longer looks at that receiver.
I don't know that about Rodgers, just seems to be what others have said about him. And, I can completely understand that view. Especially at the NFL level. Just like RBs that fumble tend to get fewer carries. We'll find out more as this season progresses.

Great coach, someone I grew up admiring. I grew up a Penn State fan. Watching them beat Miami for a national championship was one of my favorite sports memories.

That made it hurt even more when I found out why he was fired. Great men get don't turn a blind eye to things like that.

My apologies for the tangent, but it's such a damn shame how that all ended.

Dont know what to expect from Wilson. if you listen to what was being said, he didnt know where he was supposed to be when audibles were called and lost Rodgers trust.

Another reason given was because with Tomlin when guys lose a season they get left behind, if thats the case then a fresh start with MM may be all he needs.

I know he looked real good coming out of college, let’s hope he puts it all together this season.
