What am I missing regarding Nick Herbig?

Are you expecting teams to hand out a slew of $50 million per year deals between now and December? I am sure you did look that up, but you have to actually evaluate the sources for validity rather than just regurgitate the first thing that turns up on Google.

TJ Watt is probably unmovable.

Highsmith looks like a guy that can get you a day 2 pick as a return and Herbig looks like he'll get back a 2nd round pick in return.

I think one of Highsmith or Herbig gets traded between now and Week 1 as it doesn't make sense to let Herbig walk and get a 3rd or 4th in return as a comp pick, or nothing at all if we make a ton of FA signings that wipes that out.
