Especially since Rodgers probably won't play in the preseason, they can get a long look at the two young guys.

Holding on to the third-round pick who they think could develop into a starter someday isn't playing favorites.

This is possible but it's a small sample size. Plus the Steelers had a penchant to play Benton at NT last season (who wasn't all that great at it).

Listening to the local media and these guys watch the tape Black struggled at NT, you're right Benton struggled too I'm hoping Joseph-Day can split snaps with Benton at NT.

I honestly thought Broncos vs Chiefs for the AFC Championship Showdown.

I was wrong on one of those teams.

Allar is definitely not going to be on the PS. He is going to be an emergency #3 QB. If Rodgers gets hurt and Allar is the "back up" for an extended period of time, then we will sign a vet to be the "back up" in that instance. I would imagine there isn't a scenario where Allar is ready to play on an NFL field outside of preseason, but we invested the pick (and the HC who was hired to develop the QB position wanted him) so he's going to be here.

The camp battle is Howard vs. Rudolph. We know that Rudolph is a fine back up, but if Howard can show that he is capable of being "field ready" and shows a good bit of promise, then we'd be dumb to dump him. He can develop too, even if he isn't the McCarthy hand picked guy. If Howard shows out well in camp and preseason then he might just win the back up job. If he struggles, then he can go to the PS and Rudolph will be the back up.

If we are in line to have a good pick and get a first round QB, we would be stupid to pass on that hoping that Allar fixes his many woes and becomes and NFL capable QB. That is the reason why I hate the pick so much (it's not just that I don't really like Allar as a prospect). If somehow Rodgers gets hurt, or we just plain suck... I don't want us to pass on a good QB prospect because we have this massive project that McCarthy wanted to go through with Allar. I know that QB classes can change drastically over the year, but there are a number of truly very good prospects that I expect to be first round caliber pretty much regardless of how it plays out. There's just too many guys there that have talent for all of them to drop. Baseline there should be 5-6 first round QB's to choose from. That is the kind of class that allows someone to drop a bit to us. I'd hate to pass on that and put all our eggs in the Allar basket.

    $1000 + your 100 so $1100.

I like to place a few $100 bets on the harder to hit bets with like 3000-1 odds and then find a 500-1 that looks really good so I can hopefully break even on the day if the other bets dont come in.

And, you don't think that has anything to do with Tomlin and Austin not allowing Black to practice at NT???

Some of you guys are crazy.

    Rodgers
    Howard
    Allar

Thats your QB room this year.

I feel your pain Mason Rudolph truthers, I was a big Dobbs fan and went through it with him but there is no reality outside of an injury that Rudolph is on the team in Sept.

I would say that Aaron and Allar are your only guaranteed locks to make the team.

I still think that both Mason and Will could lose their 53-man roster ticket if they completely bomb the preseason. Mason and Will are both competing for the #2 QB spot behind Rodgers; the loser will be cut before the start of the season.

maybe said tongue in cheek, but truthfully, not far fetched. If the Steelers have a miserable season and are in the top 10 picks with a handful of QBs to pick from, they almost have to do it.

The one factor nobody is talking about? Injuries to the QB. How durable will Howard or Allar really be? No one can say. If they are Pickett-durable, the Steelers got a problem.

That's totally reasonable IF Burrow can stay healthy.

A HC more than likely isn't thinking this. Again most are thinking, can I win a game or two if Rodgers goes down before he comes back. What if we really have a chance this year, and we lose out making the playoffs because Rodgers is only out for a game , or 3. Do you want to throw away a season because you have no backup without any experience, and when I mean no experience, I mean not even a freaking preseason game amongst them. I don't care if they keep Mason, but I do care if they go with no backup without NFL experience.

Most of You people are misunderstanding me. This isn't about Mason, unlike many I don't love ,or hate him, I know what he is, a backup that can win a few game here , or there. All I'm say Mason, or not , not many HCs are going into a season without a backup without some experience, and I don't care if it's Mason, or Cooper Rush, or whomever.
Now this is not saying they won't, but if they really think they have a chance then they wouldn't do it.

To be fair, barring injury, both Howard and Allar will have experience playing in preseason games by the time the regular season starts. I imagine those two will get most of the snaps this preseason.

No freaking way I would do it. Even if I hated Mason, I would drop him, and get a Qb with experience. Someone I have actually seen win some games in the NFL. No sense in taking chances for the future, because tomorrow isn't promised to anyone. This is why no player I ever met wants to tank ever. You don't bust your a$$ for months on end to just throw it all away.

That backup with experience didn't help the Broncos in the AFCCG.

Tomlin and Austin made it perfectly clear that Yahya was going to be spending all his time at DE. You do remember those interviews right?
