No doubt the latter, or more broadly an overall lack of ideal physical traits other than height and an average arm. And then you have a guy going 4th overall a few years ago with similar or worse college passing stats, but oodles of natural talent. It’s a long way from a exact science.

Those are Tom Brady’s college stats.

I'm talking about something the Steelers did, not the excuse Penn State fans keep making for Allar.

This from the guy constantly bringing up old arguments. Funny.

I'm not a Penn State fan, but I know enough football to know their receivers were scrubs .

Yet you want to ignore that he had two stud running backs, an elite receiver at tight end and a strong offensive line as a junior. A quarterback good enough to be a starter in the NFL should still be good even when his receivers aren't headed for the NFL.

And when they play good teams the defense can focus on the TE, in a playoff game their receivers didn't catch a pass.

That doesn't make me a fan that was based on their returning players last season, I'm a USC fan FYI. I placed a bunch of future Super Bowl on teams besides the Steelers ;).

I know, but my comment was in response to what you said about their receivers.Hard to win big when your receivers are scrubs in any level!

Because Penn State went and brought in some experienced receivers from the transfer portal for last season, it didn't really work out though James Franklin did a poor job of recruiting the WR position.

So long as both Allar and Howard are the QB2/3 at kickoff of week 1, I am happy. No more blah Mason Rudolph hanging around to uninspire when he has to start. I'd rather see if Howard or Allar can surprise us, good or bad, hopefully good, with a big game and the look of a looming franchise QB. Mason is not and has not been that...ever.

This is true, and I forgot until You brought it up, but now...
I clearly remember this, because I told him not to make that bet.

I know a bunch of You want this, but if not Mason, I believe they will bring in a backup with NFL experience. Not many HC want to go into the season without a backup on the team that has NFL experience.

I believe in a few years some of you are going to realize that J. Franklin wasn't as bad as you thought.

    Yes/No

If Howard in camp/preseason just shows he doesn’t have it then poof he goes

The more I think about it it’s a battle between Allar and Howard and one of them is not on the 53

Kinda how I look at it, but I'm not the HC. I would be surprised big time if we go with all our backups having no NFL experience. It's just not done very often

I’ve always side-eyed the Josh Allen narrative. I’m sure he worked on his mechanics because why would’t you as a professional athlete?

But his accuracy dramatically increased when he got Stephan Diggs as a #1. There was also a coach who admitted a lot of the inaccuracy was due to below average WR’s running bad routes.

    Josh Allen completion percentage:
    2018: 52%
    2019: 58%
    2020: 69%

    Guess what year Diggs arrived?

Agreed. Allar was picked in the 3rd because he has a strong arm and the measurables that coaches love in a QB.

But for me.. and this is just my personal opinion. I just don’t think a bunch of people tuned in to see Will Howard or Allar at QB because they were exciting and popped off the screen with talent. People watched to see if they would make mistakes that would lose games.

Small sample size but all the Ohio State fans on sports boards were mostly shocked Howard didn’t screw it up like other OSU QB’s who had much more talent… and he didn’t. Maybe that is why fans why high on him.

With Allar.. I have no idea wtf is going on but I guess some fans are excited about his physical attributes but his mental is the real problem. His decision making is comically bad once he is off his first read.

I think we will draft another QB next year though and continue until we get it right.

He could win 9-10 games but struggled against top 10 competition, then last year they spent money to try and win a championship and got off to a bad start.

With that logic you must think that Fernando Mendoza is going to win more SB’s and MVP’s than Tom Brady.
