No rookie QBs are in better position to be successful in this league than Howard and Allar are right now.

The mini camp story that someone posted in this forum talked about how Allar is being torn down and restructured with the proper mechanics and technique, as well as learning to read film. MM is doing that. His offensive coaches are doing that. Rodgers is doing that. To some smaller extent, even Howard is doing that. AND, Howard is getting the same benefits as Allar. I maintain that MM being brought in as HC is first and foremost to find the next franchise QB. We currently have 2 guys learning that job right now.

I have found that physical degradation is a reality. Last time I lifted weights I did squats and the next day couldn't get into my truck. It was humiliating, so I had to take the day off.

Also I have endured an alarming rise in stomach fat. Either that or my wash machine's been shrinking my shirts.

Reminds me of my dad's mid-life crisis. He came home one day with a weight machine in a box. Set it up in the basement, did a couple of pulls on the bar and never touched it again. It sat there in the corner gathering dust for several years before he finally junked it.

I was still using them but the community newsletter came out with an ad “ free weight set, husband too old to lift” then some kids were knocking on my door and out they went

Justr a question. Didn't they try and rebuild Tebow? I'm not sure. But at that time I think they were talking about muscle memory. That can be extremely difficult to overcome. So I'm assuming they are trying to deal with that muscle memory? So Allar has years of practice doing things a certain way. It will be interesting to see if they can solve that problem.

it could take a few years to do that. along with the mental change and instilling NFL defenses and the ability to read them. the kid has a long way to go. that is a lot to change and add in a year or two.

think about this and i know everyone is different but joe burrow was at ohio state for 3 years. he was a coaches kid and came out of HS as mr.football in ohio. he was quite good. he went to LSU and it took two years before he got good there and won a national championship also with a good team around him. howard was good at k-state and moved to ohio state and won a national championship his first year. the kid is coachable and seems to pick things up quickly. they have to rebuild allar after 4 years in the same offense. that's a lot of muscle memory to change. plus other aspects of the game.

I don't know the answer to the Tebow question.
The article/post I referred to talked about Allar being the only QB there so the coaches could give him 100% attention and all the snaps.
This is the process. Rodgers has been doing the same for most of his career, and seems to want to help the younger guys. Howard and Allar get to start the process together this year. We could very easily add another QB to the room next draft. Then, in 2,3,4 years have our franchise guy leading us to number 7. And beyond.
I agree it's not traditional at this level. But it is fundamental football teaching and learning. I'm willing to see it play out. It's a 5 year contract for McCarthy. Fingers crossed.

Disagree. They can pick high without having a losing season. It'll just cost them to move up.

Case in point: The Kansas City Chiefs finished the 2016 regular season with a 12-4 record. This was the season immediately before they traded up to select Patrick Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft

Protecting a quarterback's blind side is not irrelevant.

It’s totally irrelevant. It doesn’t change anything about how you play that side which Troy did in college.

The goal posts seem to be moving again

But whether a guy protected a quarterback’s blind side in college is most certainly irrelevant to his doing so in the NFL

But you do want your best tackle on the blind side regardless of college

Yeah Your correct, the Steelers don't know what they are doing. I mean being tied for having the most SB wins clearly show they are stupid, and should follow the path of other teams.

    I believe they are.
    1. Now since HS, and JRH they don't take the pure Qb, they take the most athletic guy on the team that can throw the ball. I've watched this happen with my own eyes. Because You can win that way when a teams player only job isn't playing football.
    2. QBs don't really know a system because they are drifting for college team to college team.
    3. Notice how commands of the pocket, like stepping up, to the left to the right has disappeared. Now it's scramble to the left, scramble to the right, and if it's step up in the pocket, it's usually to take off. The NFL, and college did a little thing to let you know this was happening, and knowing they couldn't do anything about it, they tried to convince people that a new, and better breed of Qb was coming . LoL.

It takes time, and it can be done. The problem most see is that when trouble rears it's ugly head people usually in that moment revert back to old habits.
I see this all the time with L. Jackson in Baltimore. You can tell he has worked hard at different things since he has come to the pros, but almost everytime the $hit hits the fan, he revert back to what he was, and that is usually in the most critical times.
All said, yes it can be done.
