I think Rodgers waited about three years before he finally started, so I’m struggling to see where the "wasted years" are for Howard and Allar. Just imagine if Dick LeBeau had been running the offense, those guys would’ve needed a pension plan before seeing the field. :hehehe:

I believe this setup will work well for both Howard and Allar. I'm looking forward to it!

Charlie was spitballing click bait that’s all and I explained that

I know you have the need to be right but in this case you just aren’t

I also know you don’t have the cognitive skills to recognize it I assume it’s a programming bug

If they play, you still won't know much:

    Year1
    T. Brady: 11-3
    P. Manning: 3-13
    T. Bradshaw: 3-5
    J. Allen: 5-6
    B. Roethlisberger: 13-0

Point is, one year of football isn't going to tell you much of anything unless you get real lucky. And once you make the change, you're not going to do a Browns and yank a QB after a couple of bad games (see: AFCN QB Timelines | TheSteelersFans). They'll need to do a Pickett and stick with them for a few seasons. A wise coach once said you need at least 30-40 games to determine if you've got something or not at the QB position.

A good read on the subject: The Rise and Fall of QB Development: A Lost Art? - Mike Farrell Sports

    Here's a snip:

The days of sitting behind a veteran, absorbing the nuances of the game, and gradually stepping into the starting role seem like relics of a bygone era. Instead, today’s young quarterbacks are thrust into the spotlight almost immediately, expected to deliver success without the benefit of time and seasoned guidance. This shift has led to a startlingly brief career lifespan for many promising talents, raising the question: has the art of quarterback development been lost?

Ahhh… there’s that loser mentality again. I’m glad neither team management or the players feel that way.

I am good with AR returning. It will not make us a SB contender. But I am hopeful that his mentoring and experience can turn one of our rookie QBs into something good for the long term.

The entire team needs to be reworked. Even if you ignore all of the things that many of us don't like from the Tomlin era, it still takes time for a new coach to get the team pointed in the direction that he wants it to go. We don't just have a new coach either. We have an entire new coaching staff. So this year, what we should be looking for is to see a team that gets back to basics and plays solid football with an offensive playbook that is not limited to passes to the outside and behind the los. And on the defense I hope to see TJ be forced to line up in different spots so that he is not so easily neutralized and that the giant hole in the middle of the field where we have given up so much yardage goes away.

We are in a rebuilding phase right now. Time to lay the foundation and expect a solid team in 2027 and maybe a contender in 2028.

Brady was a 2nd year player when he did that. As a rookie he played in 1 game and went 1 for 3, for 6 yards. How many fans would have wanted him to be kicked to the curb after that rookie season?

I always believe that You either got it, or you don't, and it will show itself within 3-4 years regardless, and yes if You can keep yourself in the NFL you will continue to get better until your body betrays you. The question is how much better. With all that said I don't see how being behind a 1st ballot HOF Qb, and watching him will hurt any of our Qbs, or cause negative effects. I only see the positive side of it. Also You are only one play away from starting.

Being in the middle all the time like they are in the last 5 years doesn't work , and don't use the Seahawks as an example; the Russell Wilson trade helped them a lot.

True, but you can quickly see if the QB has the potential to be very good or if he's not NFL caliber.

I don't think there was ever a reasonable expectation for Allar to see the field in 2026. Will he be a better QB in 2027 after a year with Rodgers? What is the career path for Howard? I think that both come closer to achieving their long-term future with a year behind AR.

Far more QBs have been destroyed than developed. Both of these kids have a chance to be good NFL QBs. Being around Mike, Aaron, Tom and Mason is exactly what they need this year.

This belief system that grows for QBs on depth charts, where it is imagined their best years are being frittered away due to coaching malpractice or some other nefarious effect, completely ignores the importance of competition.

In other words, if any of these depth QBs are good enough then they will mount a competitive push to take the job from the ancient relic we have at QB. So this is not about the staff giving anyone anything. Rather it is about the players taking the starting role. And if real competitive threat is there, it will also in turn make Rodgers better. This is always true, at every position, where the team will benefit from competition.

Which means it is actually a good thing if the posters who believe in any of the depth options are correct about them. Regardless of whether that translates into them winning the job. Either way the team will be better for it.
