I'll go with two guys who I don't think have been mentioned yet:

Overrated - Pouncey. Had a great start to his career, lots of primetime exposure got the rep as a rook. I thought he really benefitted from Ben being Ben who looked like a shortstop fielding errant snaps all the time - except in the Cleveland playoff game. Good player? Yes. 9 x pro-bowler, 2010s all-decade, potential HOFer? I'd have to say no.

Underrated - Ike. If this guy ever learned how to catch, he'd be an all-timer. Otherwise, he was as good a cover corner in the game who travelled with WR1. When Chad OchoJohnson made his list of CBs he'd light up, the numbers beside Ike's name were around 50. He shadowed every team's number one and held them way below their numbers every week. On a D with Deebo and Troy, Farrior, Hamp, Smith, and the Beard, Ike was one of the key factors in those great Steeler defenses of the early Ben era.

I can see both sides of the coin on this issue. Bradshaw got better as he matured but a ton of credit has to be given to the receivers he had at the time, especially Swann. An average NFL receiver would have never caught some of those wayward passes Terry threw. Ben R. was also gifted for a time with an idiot who made amazing catches on balls he threw up in the air.

Most Underrated: Fast Willie Parker. @Captain Lemming@Captain Lemming was the first I'd heard make this argument and he's spot on IMO. At his peak, Parker was very good. In 2005, 2006, and 2007 he had 1202, 1494, and 1316 yards (and he sat two games in this stretch). Not a ton of receiving yards in that stretch (218, 222, 164), but that wasn't as big a part of offenses back then (especially our offense). Not that it's the be all and end all for RBs, but we never lost a playoff game with FWP. And he's a huge part of the reason we won that first SB.

But he was over shadowed by the legend that was his backup.

Most Overrated: I can't really think of a good answer here. Or at least all of the answers I can think of are still very good players. Of the ones I've read above, I like @First and goal@First and goal 's call with Pouncey. Maybe just because the last think I remember about him was almost certainly the worst snap of his life.

QBs get more credit for wins than they deserve (and more blame for losses than they deserve). So maybe either Bradshaw or Ben. Both are great players and deserving of being in the Hall. Bradshaw got in on the 1st ballot. Ben should too. I don't think either is particularly over-rated. In fact, maybe Bradshaw is under-rated because of the C_T joke. And both probably suffer outside of Pittsburgh from the brand / love of defense first...so maybe they're under rated because they aren't universally admired for QBs with the same accomplishments?

It could also be guys from the 70s who are just legendary now...maybe someone like Lambert. Not because he wasn't amazing. But because he's now seen as almost a god for the team...hell for the whole league. In that light, the person who might literally be the most is Mr. Joe Greene even though he's likely the most important person in the franchise. Even thinking that feels blasphemous. But I bet for newer fans who aren't Steelers fans, they'd come up with Lambert before Greene...so maybe Jack is more over rated (again...over rated doesn't mean bad).

In the same vein, maybe my final answer is Art Rooney Sr. There's no team without him, or at least the team would be so much different if he never acquired the team. So he's obviously critically important. But when he was running the team it was mostly ****.

Wikipedia says that Dan was running the day to day operations of the team by 1969. That's the year we drafted Greene and hired Noll (wikipedia says Dan "personally selected the coaching hire of Chuck Noll"). That means that Art Sr. started the team and it was generally bad when he ran it. Once he let his son run it we became basically the most successful North American pro sports team across that long span of time (1969 - present). So (while it hurts to say), Art Sr. is probably my final answer.

Again, part of this is that I think you need to be rated highly to be over rated. So all of the options are actually good players / important people.

Every coin technically has three sides: the obverse, reverse, and the edge.

    I’ll let myself out

“some” many more were on target too. Which great super bowl winning Qb didnt have great receivers sometimes making great catches? Even Brady had Gronk, Edelman, and Randy Moss. Montana had Rice and Dwight Clark (with at least one great catch of a high pass at the back of the end zone)[/QUOTE]

Minkah made first team All-Pro three times even though his play fell off in the later years, I wouldn't call him overrated. Wallace was a damn good one trick pony.

Harris wasn't a dynamic playmaker, but he's the only RB in Steelers history to rush for 1,000 in their first four years in the league.
