Yup. I remember a good bit of talk about Fautanu possibly moving inside when he was drafted. I'm not sure about him protecting the quarterback's blind side. Remember, he didn't do that in his last season in college because Penix is a lefty.

The thing that gets me about that preseason was how accurate Pickett was. I can understand doing well against defenses that arent game planning but he couldnt hit the side of a barn when the season started. Where did that go.

Can always keep Fautanu on the right side and have McCormick and Dunker battle it out for LG. If I'm not mistaken, McCormick played LG in college.

Glad somebody got my reference to "Goodfellas". They actually ad-libbed that "You're a funny guy" scene, it wasn't in the original script. One of the more memorable scenes in a great movie.

Little more trivia, it was the Gotti family that put the hit out on Tommy.

According to Henry Hill's book, John Gotti personally did the hit on Tommy.

He said John did it himself or just the Gotti family? Usually the head of a family doesnt do that just so it can never come back to him.

I grew up in the same area as the Gottis, I remember when his boy was killed when his neighbor accidentally hit him with his car. We were all like oh that guy is dead. Sure enough, he disappeared without a trace.

Looked it up, he wasnt head of the family yet, he was a captain in the Gambino crime family.

There's conflicting information about who actually pulled the trigger on Tommy DeSimone, I was just going on Henry Hill's story. According to another account, a hitter for the Gambino family by the name of Thomas Agro shot Tommy in the presence of John Gotti, but not before he was tortured first. One thing is known though, they never found Tommy's body.

I personally think it's that he was really good at back shoulder throws and could do some other things OK when not under pressure.

That's a good skill set against vanilla defenses.

Then teams game plan and say "let's take the back shoulder throws away from him". And then he gets jittery, spins (turns his back to the play), gets smoked by a DL, and gets injured.

Also, small sample sizes lead to bad conclusions.

    Yeah....

One of histories most notorious human beings that have ever lived aside, Max being placed at RT should shock no one. Personally speaking, I would rather have both Fautanu and McCormick flip sides as they are both experienced on the Left (though Troy has never blocked for the blindside before) and have the Rookies Gennings and Max on the right. How come?!

Both Troy and Mason already have very good chemistry together. Given how the Left Side overall is the QBs blindside anyhow, why not send your best Lineman there?! As for the strongside?! Have your rooks there; provided they earn that opportunity of course.

There are a few factors involved. One is pressure. Defenses were in his face more, and he didn't handle it well enough.

Then there was the Canada effect. That Canada was vastly overmatched against pretty much any defensive coach in the league wasn't as big a deal when teams kept things simple in the preseason. Once the mismatches began, that made things much harder on the quarterback.

Another factor was Tomlin's refusal to trust Pickett. I can't prove this one, but the Steelers focused on throws underneath or to the sideline. Pickett's strength at Pitt was attacking the middle of the field. He had some of his best throws as a Steelers to the middle of the field as well, but they didn't let him do it often enough. When you essentially tell a young quarterback he needs to avoid turnovers at all costs, every part of his game is going to suffer.

So some of it was Pickett's fault, but Tomlin deserves a big chunk of the blame as well.

If only someone had already pointed out that Fautanu didn't protect the quarterback's blind side in college. Oh wait. I already did.
