Quick video of the good and bad. The good is reason to be very excited about. The bad I think can be overcome. And some of that will be helped by having NFL talent to throw to.

I like the pick, but that doesn't mean don't draft another QB next year. Add to the QB room with competition at the most important position.

No vet QB after next year. Stick with the young guys that you develop.

How many first round QB busts have their been since 2000?

I hear you but it would be great if we knew already and could spend a first elsewhere.

They didn't make a mistake imo of reaching for QB, which is all I can ask.

I get the whole Pregnon concern being on the board, but I think they just liked Dunker better.

I don't get the Pregnon love at all. Dude is already 25. He only excelled when he got to play again relative kids. He won't likely be worth extending if he plays through his 5th year option as he'll be 30 years old.

When I saw the age, big red flag for me. Ready to plug n play? Probably, but if not, yikes.

34 Qbs that were drafted in the 1st round from 2005 till 2023 either were bust, or didn't stay starters in the NFL.
I went only till 2005, and I didn't go beyond 2023 because we can't be really 100% sure about them yet. Still 34 first round Qbs taken in those 18 years ended up not being good.

Thanks for doing the leg work looking that up.

Basically your Ben Roethlisbergers don't grow on trees for the ease of picking. Picking a QB with a round one pick doesn't guarantee anything.

Only receiver on the team last year, kind of easy to take him out when you dont have to worry about anyone else.

Steelers are batting a thousand when drafting a Qb in the top 11.

There is no 5th year option for Pregnon. The option is only applicable to 1st round picks.

Where do guys like Darnold and Mayfield land in your numbers? They didn’t get second contracts with their drafting teams even though they eventually had NFL success.

Also what does that number look like for QBs taken after the first rd. Allar and especially Howard will really buck the odds if either turns out good.

Your best chance of finding a QB is still in the first rd.

Many third-round or later quarterbacks picks have gone on to have excellent NFL careers. That currently includes active Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, and Russell Wilson — all of whom have been top-16 starting quarterbacks in the league. Instead of listing the busts I perfer to to see where they land. In all cases they landed with a good coach!

I could list Warner and Brady too.

I mean, Tom Brady was a 6th round pick. I know that was rare, but the round chosen is based on belief in potential, not anything actually solid or guaranteed.

This team still has too many holes at interior DL, ILB and secondary. QB in first round is fine if Howard and Allar flop... but we'll never know if we keep staring at our belly buitton and trot out washed up QBs that will get us 8-10 wins.

That was Detroit's strategy, and they still lost.

Welp, turns out that a third string secondary isn't very good in the NFL.

While true, and I've used this argument before that you don't need a high 1st round pick to get a very good QB, the stats still lean in favor of 1st round QBs and winning super bowls.

    Undrafted
    • Kurt Warner — Undrafted — Super Bowl-winning season: 1999
    1st Round
    • Sam Darnold — 3rd overall — 2025
    • Patrick Mahomes — 10th overall — 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024

    • Joe Flacco — 18th overall — 2012
    • Aaron Rodgers — 25th overall — 2010
    • Ben Roethlisberger — 11th overall — 2005, 2008
    • Eli Manning — 1st overall — 2007, 2011
    • Peyton Manning — 1st overall — 2006, 2015
    • Trent Dilfer — 6th overall — 2000
    • John Elway — 1st overall — 1997, 1998
    • Steve Young — USFL Supplemental Draft — 1994
    • Troy Aikman — 1st overall — 1992, 1993, 1995
    • Doug Williams — 17th overall — 1987
    • Phil Simms — 7th overall — 1986, 1990

    • Jim Plunkett — 1st overall — 1980, 1983
    • Terry Bradshaw — 1st overall — 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979
    • Bob Griese — 4th overall — 1972, 1973
    • Len Dawson — 5th overall — 1969
    • Joe Namath — 12th overall — 1968
    2nd Round
    • Drew Brees — 2009

I lived in Chicago when McMahon was picked and he was one strange person

People seem to think Tomlin should have been able to control the shenanigans of the entire team

Ditka and the rest of the team couldn’t control one player :lolol:

Did Penn State have any receivers that were drafted this year? So did Drew Allar really even stand a chance from the receiving corp he had? Imagine if he actually had some decent caliber receivers. There is no argument he has good throwing style and a big arm. 13 INTs in his college career is pretty damn good if you ask me. The Steelers are in a good place possibly for the future. The question becomes if Rodgers does not sign do you look for another older Vet QB or is it time to see what Howard has after not taking an NFL snap.

I nominate this for post of the year. This is proof that QBs in the first round are more likely to win freakin' Super Bowls.
