What plan? We have the highest paid/most underachieving defense in the league. Our 3 best defenders average 33 years old. Instead of embracing a true rebuild, they decide to "run-it-back," and for what exactly? I'm sorry, this franchise has been stale since Ben retired and the McCarthy hire just doesn't get me thinking the FO has a real plan.

McCarthy has talked about the possibility of keeping 4 QBs, they do like to have a veteran QB as the backup.

In the NBA sometimes those teams weren't tanking their best player was injured and missed most of the season. There is a difference between being a bad team or trying to tank the Steelers were just bad and got Greene and Bradshaw.

Love to know his real reasons for continuing in the NFL. What he tells his family, not the BS media. Does he feel he still has the fire in his belly? Does he really feel he can get to a SB? Does he worry what to do with himself after football? Is it to enhance his financial security for the future? That is a fat paycheck to retire from.

I don’t know how anyone didn’t see this coming. The second they hired McCarthy was the exact moment I knew AR would return. I can’t believe some of you are so surprised.

I agree. Tanking in football is stupid and gets people hurt. I'm all for a complete roster reset, but I'm definitely not for tanking. Hell, there's always the chances of a team that offloads a ton of talent and overachieves and I'd much rather be in that category of overachieving with a bunch of guys on their 1st and 2nd contracts with room for continued growth.

Having a veteran backup is a good idea. I'm not too comfortable with Howard or Allar hopping in there for a 4-5 game stretch. I'm not fan of Mason but plugging either of those guys could lead to a bigger disaster.

The St. Louis Cardinals were supposed to be tanking this year and they swept the Pirates last week.

Pirates swept the Reds then took 2 of 3 in AZ. Best pirates team in years.

I am a fan of Mason. Even so, that revamped OLine is going to need time to gel. At least until the bye week, better to have Mason be the one to get beat up, instead of undermining Howard or Allar by tossing them into the deep end before they are ready (and before the OLine protects better).

I said something like this last year about Rodgers, and still think it is true this year...

40+ year old athletes can still be as good as they ever were, but much less often.
If they don't get enough rest and recovery, the drop-off is steeper and the time to get back to acceptable levels will be much longer.
(We learned this from Dara Torres, who was 0.01 seconds away from an Olympic gold medal, against athletes half her age. She made sure to minimize the number of races she would have to do, and was single-minded about recovery between swims.)

Rodgers gives the best chance to win any single game, if he is fully rested. But how often can he reach that peak level?
I think he does poorly over a 17 game schedule, and he did poorly in the playoffs last year when he didn't get a break in either of the last 2 regular season games.
That's why I don't want him back... unless McCarthy has a plan to only play him in half the regular season games (more recovery time between starts).

To put it another way, I looked at passing yards/attempt: how many games did Rodgers average 8.0+ yards/attempt for a game?
In 2024 on a weak Jets team, he had 6 games.
Last year, he only had 4 games (all wins: Jets, Vikings, first Ravens game, Dolphins).
He'll look good in off-season (for internal QB competition) and opening day, but after that... not so much.

the idea and talk of the steelers keeping 4 QBs is absolutely stupid. if they do sign aaron and then keep rudolph someone should be fired. you draft a QB last year and talk him up and then draft a QB this year in the 3rd round of the draft...so you have 2 QBs, one a rookie and the other potentially a rookie because he was out all of last season and saw no play that you have to try to develop. so you sign a veteran QB to return and you also have a veteran QB on the roster because you like having a veteran back up... so essentially you have wasted 2 draft picks that you don't have enough snaps to develop and get a good look at what either can do.

someone should be fired if they keep 4 QBs. and if you don't you either don't keep a veteran back up, or you throw away a rookie that you have zero clue if he could have been a legitimate NFL QB.

i'd rather they not sign aaron. yes, he probably gives them the best chance to win. but is that chance enough to get to the SB? i doubt it. so 10-7 or 11-6 and a loss in the playoffs is no real difference from 6-11 with no added benefit of an earlier draft pick.

Some truth here but some things maybe not. Agree about the rest thing. He looked fatigued by seasons end, like it couldn't end fast enough. Also, Rodgers tailed off at the end of the season because two of his better weapons weren't on the field (Washington, Metcalf).

Rodgers hasn't been a great deep thrower for several seasons now. It's not a strong point for his game anymore. It was tough to watch at times last season. Kept wanting to blame the receivers but older QBs just start to lose accuracy on deeper throws. Saw it with Manning. Saw it with Roethlisberger. Even saw it with Brady. And I don't expect Rodgers will improve much on deep passing this season even with a better receiving room and better OL. It's just the age thing unfortunately.

Stafford led the pack for deep ball passing even at his age. Pretty amazing he hasn't fallen off much.

Probably because neither young QB is ready to play this season. Allar has a lot to change, Howard needs another season of learning, especially with a new offense being installed. People act like any QB can play with any installed offense. It doesn't work that way. Plays and schemes need tailored to the QB. Why tailor an offense to QBs that aren't even ready to play?

The problem with the current Steelers is that they're just happy with the current situation, even though they've been very mediocre since their 11-0 start in 2020... They decide to run it back every year even though the chances of being at another level are at zero... Their plan is atrocious.

The steelers need to take a step back, rebuilding for once but Rooney is delusional like crazy
