Rodgers signed June 6 last year

No reason to expect anything sooner this year

    Could

Maybe their conversations took a turn when Allar was drafted

But the tag was a good move no matter

All makes sense now. Arizona entered the picture so the Steelers protected themselves with the tag.

if he doesn't sign we could end up with about a 6 million dollar QB room. that is about as low as it goes cap wise.

Would be the perfect time to build around the pillars of JPJ, Harmon, Benton, Herbig, Queen, and this young offensive line. I'd rather overachieve with a youth movement than remain stagnant.

Have no idea what he is going to do but given the tag play, I’d say this definitely has some legs.

On the one hand, the argument is he came here because of Tomlin and he is gone now but on the other, he forged some good relationships while he was here so even without Tomlin that has to be a lure. Does he really want to start over again.

On the flip side there is how his tenure in GB ended with him and McCarthy not being on good terms, so is he really going to be a driving factor for Rodgers to come here.

Arizona has better weather, some big playmakers of their own, maybe the best TE in football, a stud RB just drafted, an electric WR that hasn’t met his potential yet and has ties to the new HC.

Another odd thing, as far as I know, still no contract offer from the Steelers.

The Steelers have typically gone into the season with 3 QBs.

    Currently, Rudolph, Howard, and Allar.

If Rodgers comes back, it would likely mean a room of Rodgers, Howard, and Allar.

Honestly, which is the better QB room? If for no other reason, I would hope Rodgers comes back for the benefit of the QB room as a whole.

I hope Rodgers signs elsewhere. Another example of another team saving the Steelers from themselves.

    However, I think it’s a made-up story.

Here is the author’s bio: https://muckrack.com/bernadette-giacomazzo-3/bio

“…consistently delivered high-impact content that drives traffic, sparks conversation, and shapes culture.”

“…previously led SEO growth across RetailWire's and Blavity’s media brands, boosting traffic by over 300% at each outlet. Her content expertise spans beauty, fashion, finance, pop culture, and lifestyle, with a signature voice that is bold, witty, and informed.”

While it is possible a brand optimizer with no history of breaking a football story has something no one else has (it is Aaron Rodgers after all) ; I think it’s suspicious and likely fabrication.

here’s hoping Rodgers is a Cardinal by the end of the week.

The Steelers being held captive by 42 year old Aaron Rodgers just shows how far this franchise has fallen.

Well, I've been very patient. 1, because I've always been a fan of his talent. 2, I thought he gave us a better chance to win because of the QB mess the Steelers have. I've been willing to wait for this nut. No more. Who has to take this long to decide!?!? He's played over 20 years and he's not sure if he wants to play by March or April or May!? This guy is a selfish prima donna. I know hind sight is 20/20 but this guy fooled me, I admit it. Call him and say go elsewhere to get your ego stroked. Start whoever is the best come week 1, Allar or Howard and just make the best of it. Those of you who have been preaching this from the beginning, I'm with you now. 4-13 or 5-12 is fine with me. I said in another thread that I think '26 is a wash anyway with an all new coaching staff and everyone having to grow together. '27 is when a true ascension to greater things start in my humble opinion. Cut the cord with this guy once and for all.

Agreed. We gotta see what we got now. If the record tanks due to bad QB play we draft earlier to replace him. Or we find a hidden gem.

Unless Alar really impresses in camp, go with Howard who is supposedly more ready, let Alar get coached up for a season.

If Howard looks limited, dump him, draft a QB, and let Alar and the new guy compete next year. If Howard shows real potential, we dont draft a QB, let him and a coached up Alar compete next year.

Considering my own point of view, when nearing the end of a career, it makes more sense to stick with the familiar rather than starting over. That is what he would be doing in AZ. MM brings some familiarity. And also consider that Rodgers is allegedly reluctant to play with young, inexperienced players.

If you, me, and any other poster here were in the quarterback room, we would only be ranked a couple spots behind the current group.

As you said, a lifetime backup and two young quarterbacks not taken at the top of the draft that haven't thrown a pass at the NFL level.

If just one of these young QBs becomes a good player, it will change the entire dynamic of the room and how the rest of the world views it.

For the record, who cares about what they haven't done or what anyone outside the team thinks about them? It's only about what they do from here that matters. In two years, they may have one of the stronger quarterback rooms in the NFL. That's what we are all hoping for.

    Yep.

Seems like the benefits of the tag were that we got to preserve the comp pick (I think it can't be higher than a 4th for a QB who's over 30?) if he gets signed elsewhere and to take away his ability to sit around to see if someone gets hurt in camp.

The cost is that his $15mm is on our cap now and will be unless he signs elsewhere...but if he doesn't sign, I think it comes off week-by-week during the season like the cap hit for the tag Bell didn't sign. Maybe when it passes the deadline where he can't sign anymore, the rest comes off? That room wouldn't really be usable this year, but it would roll over into the next season.

    At least that's my understanding.
