That's especially true when it comes to drafting a franchise QB, something the Steelers have been in desperate need of ever since a prime Ben. We were only able to draft Ben at #10 overall after a losing season. With a good QB draft class coming up in 2027, going 6-11 this year might be the best thing for the Steelers in the long term. That's another good reason for Rodgers to not return. I'm not saying that they should intentionally tank this season, but I'd rather see what Howard or Allar can do as our QB #1, so we'll know if we even need to draft a QB in round 1 next year. I may not be the smartest guy in the world about football, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Steelers will never rise above the level of mediocrity without a franchise QB, and having a bad 2026 would certainly help their chances of getting one.

So the the real answer without all the spinning, twirling, and twisting is You cannot win a playoff game if you don't make the playoffs . It was a very simple question.

Did someone have to have a losing season to draft these Qbs??
Tom Brady, Pat Mahomes, Drew Brees, Joe Montana, Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott, Joe Flacco, just to name a few, or did these guys suck, or are they guys we still talk about.

It hasn't worked out too well for the Raiders or Jets with all of those losing seasons.

We’re not the Raiders and Jets. We tend to draft well, a team like that could really benefit from an early draft slot.

    This isn’t complicated you guys.

Art disagrees with you otherwise he wouldn't be waiting for Rodgers to sign again.

2016 season... but playoffs were in 2017. It's technically called the 2016 season AFC Championship.

Example: Steelers lost the '94 AFC Championship to Chargers... even though it happened in 1995.

Yeah it's 2026, but I wish it was 1978 as far as Steelers history is concerned. :smiley1:

Steelers are in a bad rut... bad as in 1960's, not 1980's.

No he doesn’t because he has never commented on the value of picking high in the draft. No one in this thread is advocating to tank.

    And Colbert disagrees with you.

Darnold was drafted by the Jets and just won a Super Bowl. Clearly, coaching is an issue for the Jets... like it is for Steelers and playoff success.

Why are you guys focused on crappy teams to make your point when we have a classic example how it helped lead us to Ben.

Who gives a **** what bad teams do.

Guess what , the Raiders, Miami, and Jets weren't always that way, just like Dallas who hasn't seen a SB since 1995. Not a one of them thought this would happen, that only happens to other teams. Surprise Surprise.

STD also gave examples of good teams finding their quarterbacks late in the first round or later in the draft.

Also, didn't you like the Allar pick? (My apologies if I remembered that wrong. I have lost track of who liked what at this point.)

It makes perfect sense. Bringing back Rodgers would be a continuation of the philosophy that has kept the Steelers in playoff contention, but not real Super Bowl contention, for years. They would be doing more of the same rather than taking the risk of finding out what Howard or Allar can do, which could lead to a poor record and a high draft pick.

Ben was the 3 Qb taken, and no reason to believe that we couldn't have gotten him if we didn't have a losing season. 10 teams already passed on him. Oh people can say so, and so team would have snatched him up, but those same people said S. Sanders Qb would be drafted in the first 10 picks of the 1st round, and how did that work out.
You act like those teams were always like that. I clearly remember a Jets team that went to two back to back AFC Championship games, I guess that stepping stone broke, or a Dallas team that won 3 SBs in 4 years, and hasn't been back since 1995, or a Miami team that was winning SB, and constantly in the mix. You think they thought this was going to happen. Start down those losing seasons, and You never know when they may start to end, or not.

What about the Patriots? What about the Eagles? What about the Seahawks?

I predict the Chiefs will be back and making noise in the playoffs this year after a losing season.

Again, you are pointing to other teams rather than focusing on ours.

And the Jets and Raiders have been awful for a long time anyway :lolol:

What about the Pats, they beat a Denver team without their Qb, so by your words that doesn't count. See how stupid what you said sounds?? You shouldn't use arguments that can be used against you.

Art knows Rodgers is likely to keep the Steelers in contention for the playoffs, if he was interested in a losing season and better draft pick he would just roll with one of the other three QBs on the roster.
