the size thing gets me. allar is 6-5 226 and howard is 6-4 236. 1 inch less and ten pounds heavier. big arm means nothing if the ball isn't getting to the right spot at the right time. howard can make all the throws. the coachable thing is what will make the difference. one adjust to the offense and it sounds like one needs the offense adjusted to him. as i said we will find out on the field. if rodgers doesn't sign, i'm telling you there will be another guy that may be far ahead of the other two. he's 6-5 235. :smiley1::cool:

I'm not saying Howard is a scrub, but he did have a WR room full of highly rated guys compared to the Penn State WRs.

I would love to see a real competition between Allar and Howard and may the best man win but someone pointed out that Allar is McCarthys draft pick and will be the favored son as such.

There is truth to that, new HC’s that come in dont favor the guys they inherited as much as the guys they draft themselves.

McCarthy does sound as if he really likes what Howard has to offer though so we’ll find out I guess.

LoL. Romulans from Star Trek, but I agree, they took that name from the Roman Romulus, and Remus the supposedly twin founders of Rome.

I was that someone, or somebody. I hope it's a fair competition. I actually don't like one over the other, but I have seen throughout the History of the NFL how teams favor the higher pick, the more money player, and , or the new HCs new toy.

    I don't.
At least, not until next year.

Allar needs to work on his footwork and to break any poor technique from the college game. I'd like him to work on that for a year.
Throwing him in the fire right away almost guarantees he will revert to bad habits when he is under stress. Lots of repetition with better technique until it is second nature will build a solid foundation.

Howard has had a year to adjust his game. Let him show what he has (unless he is far behind Mason), and then next year let Allar compete when he is pro-ready.

maybe to a point but....... Do you think he wants him throwing more to his new wr or Metcalf and pittman. That stuff only goes so far. A guy that isn't that good just because of draft status , especially throwing it at a third rounder could get you fired quickly.

I wouldn’t worry about Allar being given an unfair advantage based on draft position. Howard has an experience advantage that puts him in the pole position to be the #2 QB in 2026 and the opportunity that goes along with it. Now, if we take a QB in the 1st round next draft, and especially if we trade up to pick him, then he will absolutely be the guy who gets most of the attention and every single opportunity to be the starter.

I’d like Rodgers back if his place is to start the season and work on teaching these two with the idea of getting out of the way when one or another is ready

I’m not sure AR’s ego can handle stepping out of the way

Sorry Howard is getting a 4.4 million dollars contract from us, and Allar is getting over 7 million. How is this more??

Sorry I disagree, but I hope that I'm wrong in this instance.
    1. Allar was a higher pick
    2. Allar cost more
    3. Allar was picked with McCarthy as the HC
    4. Howard was picked with Tomlin as the HC.
    5. I've seen how this works for most teams in the NFL, including ours.
    6. I hope again I'm wrong in this situation.

I agree that both arguments are valid. Time will tell if one, both, or neither pan out, it's really not an either/or my guy or your guy situation. What's best for the team is if both develop.
Allar may have the advantage of being the McCarthy pick, but I think that Howard is more ready to play tomorrow than him. Allar likely needs a lot of development if he's ever going to be NFL ready. It probably bodes well for the QB competition - Howard has a year to set the bar, and Allar will need to surpass that if he is going to overtake him. I think Howard is a higher floor, lower ceiling prospect to start, plus the fact that he's had a year in an NFL atmosphere.

Allar No. 4 in the NFL, sorry Will......

(Dallas and their rich fans hoping for a defense...:lolol:)

In fact, Mendoza isn’t even the best-selling rookie QB jersey over the early stages of the offseason.

The current top 10 stands as is, per Fanatics:

    1. Caleb Downs (Dallas Cowboys)
    2. Jacob Rodriguez (Miami Dolphins)
    3. Malachi Lawrence (Dallas Cowboys)

    4. Drew Allar (Pittsburgh Steelers)
    5. Fernando Mendoza (Las Vegas Raiders)
    6. Chris Johnson (Miami Dolphins)
    7. Jeremiyah Love (Arizona Cardinals)
    8. Caleb Lomu (New England Patriots)
    9. Dillon Thieneman (Chicago Bears)
    10. David Bailey (New York Jets)

Although it’s not surprising that the Ohio State standout Caleb Downs is No. 1, especially with it being the Dallas Cowboys, it is a surprise to see fellow Cowboy Lawrence so high up in the rankings.

With the Cowboys needing defense of any kind following a season in which a lack of it destroyed their chances of making the playoffs, it looks like Dallas fans are pumped for their newcomers.

The same can be said for Pittsburgh Steelers fans, who welcome Drew Allar into the mix, as they continue to wait on Aaron Rodgers and whether he will return to the team next season.

I agree with pretty much all of what you are saying, but I do believe that being a 3rd round pick makes it a long shot for "preferential treatment" I don't think that McCarthy cares who develops. Look at Mason. He was a third round pick too and the Steelers shied away from committing to him as a starter at every turn despite being a draft pick over Hodges and then despite being in house vs. a FA when Fields/Wilson and Rodgers took over. I can agree with a preferential treatment for a first round pick, since the investment there is massive... but being a 3rd rounder means anything goes. I doubt McCarthy is going to shy away from playing the QB that's developing (if that's Howard) in favor of a 3rd round pick that isn't (Allar in this scenario).
