Mike DeFabo with his 53-man prediction for The Athletic. The intriguing decisions for me will be at QB (Rodgers - couldn't care less about him, it's the other three if he returns), OT (Jones/Fautanu/Iheanachor), DT (Jobity Jr.), and S (Spears-Jennings).

I'd like to see Heidenreich earn a spot as well, but it's going to be an uphill battle.

The Steelers are such Ass-holes. According to this roster the only rookie they assigned a number to was Max #71.

This is a player that has worn the #58 all his life, and has a big 58 tattoo on his arm.

I wonder if Max even knows he can pick his number, or if the Steelers are just trying to pull a fast one.

Yeah, that is completely WRONG. I can think of a ton of 1st round rookies in the NFL that were allowed to pick their number.

    Read what I posted again

    Slowly

And this is the Steelers not the other 31 teams

    Do your homework

And I like the way you moved the goalposts rather than admit the biggest error you made

Ok, are you trying to tell me the Steelers did not allow Ben Roethlisberger to pick number 7?

Ben was a huge fan of John Elway's and wore number 7 his entire life. Try to explain to me how Ben did not tell the Steelers he was wearing Number 7.

Right now I am wondering if Drew Allar will get #15? Will they let both players wear #15 in camp or at OTAs? 2 players can wear the same number all the way through Preseason.

I'm just going to end the suspense here. Number 58 for the Steelers is JACK LAMBERT. They are not giving a rookie JACK LAMBERT'S number.

I see you dropped the inane idea that a rookie should be allowed to pick Lamberts number

No. If the Steelers policy is that they don't retire numbers, then the numbers should be available.

70, 75, and 32 are retired, the rest of the numbers should be available.

I didn't like it when they turned down Darnell Washington request to be #0, Justin Fields for being #1, and I don't see why Pittsburgh's #1 pick this year can't wear #58. It is what the Chief would have wanted; as it was his rule that the Steelers don't have cheerleaders, and don't retire numbers like the rest of the league. As the Chief said, The Steelers are Pittsburgh's Team, not America's.

There is only one Steelers #58, and it ain't Max the rookie.

Maybe the Steelers can give the kid 85. At least his tattoo will have the right numbers.

I like the DeFabo picks. One of the things that has bugged me over the years was the stock that Tomlin put in veterans. Rookies were used as fill ins to rest a veteran. They were not starters until the current starter was injured, or until they hit year 2+. It meant that we were either drafting players that needed to be coached up, or we were wasting NFL ready talent by having them sit on the bench.

I much prefer that we draft players capable of being a starter in season 1. It gives us more flexibility and makes us less a hostage to large contracts for veterans that hurt the overall team strength by concentrating so much money in a fraction of the players.
