There are no nuances in your world :lolol:

Everyone is on equal footing, everyones roster is the same talent level, every draft pick is the same talent level, coaching is the same, teams picking at the top dont have better access to the top talent, every franchise operates at the same competence level.

No one wants to tank, well, might be a couple that do but in general the people who say they wont mind a losing season arent saying they want to tank, they are just saying there could be a silver lining getting out of the dead zone they continually find themselves drafting in.

If I was you , I wouldn't be proud of this. Lots of people agreed with Hitler, and Jim Jones just to mention a few.
LoL. LoL. It called the 10-15 percent rule, or for many the 90 - 85 percent rule.

Appears you haven't read, but only scanned through it. That is not what they are saying. Hell they don't even know what they are saying.

I think its a very stupid idea when I hear people say we should tank. First and foremost I would never be a fan of any organization or any player who deemed it necessary or thought prudent to " tank" to start fresh and wipe the slate clean. Professionals don't do this. At least not in my world. I have had recently someone spew that garbage. Yikes. Really is that how we want to play it.

But it is. You think Buffalo isnt any closer to winning a SB than we are just because the end result is not a SB victory. You think or seem to imply that repeatedly getting blown out in the playoffs is the same as a team that is competitive and that advances to numerous conference title games.

You’ve said repeatedly there is no advantage to picking higher in the draft because you can find good talent when you pick later which is entirely true but harder to do. You point to the fact that these teams havent won a SB as proof even know that doesnt take into consideration a number of reasons why they haven’t.

I have yet to see anyone make the claim that we will 100% find a franchise QB picking earlier or that we will go to the SB the following year if we pick higher in the draft. All that is being said is being in position to pick higher in the draft will give us better access to the elite talent available. They still have to choose well but I trust the Steelers front office to do that better than the Browns or other perennial losers and then, this is very important, they have to go to a team that puts them in the best position to succeed.

I dont know if you saw it but Bell was talking about how bad a coach Adam Gase was, I think you even agree that bad coaching will bring down a team much more than good coaching will lift a team up.

The Lions traded for their quarterback.

The Raiders just drafted a rookie. He still needs to prove that he is a franchise quarterback.

He thinks getting to the Super Bowl isn't that hard, even though only two teams per year make it vs 14 who make the playoffs, almost half of the league and this is not that hard when the AFC has so many bad teams like the Titans, Browns, Raiders, and Jets year after year

The Eagles finished 4-11-1 in 2020 and had the 6th overall pick in 2021, I think, but they traded down to 12 to get an additional first-round pick for the following year. It also helped to have players like A.J. Brown,Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter in the next few drafts. And with their 2021 draft pick, they then traded up to 10 instead of waiting and drafted a receiver like Smith. All of this helped build a Super Bowl team that went to the Super Bowl twice after their awful 2020 season.

Sometimes, a bad season can help you have a franchise quarterback; other times, it helps to build the rest of your roster.

Also, it's a shame the Steelers never thought to trade T.J. Watt when they had the chance. I mean, the Seahawks are another example with Russell Wilson. He seemed to be on the decline after 2021 and instead of waiting until it was too late, they decided to trade him for a massive haul (including a first round pick who become the 5th overall pick in 2023), and that helped build a Super Bowl team in 2025.

An elite front office helps a lot, and when you have high draft picks, it pays off for a team.

Yup. I've been saying that since early last offseason, that they should have traded him rather than giving him that massive contract.

There's a reason why certain franchises don't draft in the top 5-10 very often and its a level of professional excellence that other organizations don't have. It doesn't take a particularly long run of suck to be stuck sucking for a long time. Its hard to get out of the suck too... Teams like the Raiders, Giants, Browns, Jets, etc. draft in the top 5-10 all the time, and don't ever seem to get any better for a sustained period of time. Tanking is dumb. Its not a guarantee to get better, and its a massive risk to the franchise's health long term.

In a vacuum its best to have a top 10 pick every single year you don't win the SB.... Its just not realistic. It technically raises the percentage chance that your draft picks hit by a bit, but there's still no guarantee you don't stay there. Winning is a learned culture, and its something you should strive to do as much as you can every single year. Its a non-starter for me. If one of the salespeople I manage sandbagged a year in order to get a lower budget for the following year, I'd probably fire them on the spot.

Don't need to tank every year...Just one or 2 years in the NFL is enough

Fine, tanking isn't the right word, but my plan would be to prioritize developing young players over a year or two and collect draft picks by trading some vets with have trade high value(but I think this is too late for that unfortunately) over winning at all costs, with the goal of becoming a great team in the long run.

Notice how easy it was to acquire a "in their prime" Safety and Linebacker if everything else is ser on your tram.

Now give me a list of in their prime probowl QBs, Tackles, and edge rushers, corners and WRs we've been able to acquire... Its a. Numbers game.

If you are drafting low value positions, you are mostly just not given yourself the best options.

If you are one or 2 studs away from Superbowl contention, you'd rather be short a Safety, Linebacker, or Running back. Coz in their prime studs in those positions are relatively cheap.

So its just better draft sense to take your risk at high value positions.

QB, Tackle, Edge Rusher, Corner, WR, DT, Guard... In that order. As a GM, id simply never draft a low value position in the 1st. If there was a low value position guy like Downs or Styles, is simply you him as vait to trade back and get future picks.

I thought it was really good. I feel like they went for players with high character and good heads on their shoulder. Something the team has been sorely lacking for a while.

Fitzpatrick cost a first-round pick. Farrior was a free agent, and they had the assistance of the Jets being their usual stupid selves.

In both cases, it took rolling the dice on someone who had failed to reach their full potential in their first stop. Look how much trouble the Steelers have had finding an inside linebacker since they lost Shazier, yet another inside linebacker who made a massive impact on the team after they took him in the first round. That is why they spent so much on Queen, who hasn't panned out. It's not easy at all, and weaknesses at both positions were a big part of what doomed the Steelers to yet another early playoff exit last season.

That's what you aren't getting. Those aren't low-value positions. They are positions that can have a massive impact on a team. Spending a first-rounder on Polamalu was a huge part of the Steelers winning two Super Bowls and playing in a third. I guess you missed that, too.
