Okay, Matt Williamsons comments have got me on a 180 on this kid. The fact that he describes why he was high on him BEFORE the draft, gives it more credibility, rather than a post draft "justification".
    His reasoning is very compelling:

Max Iheanachor's traits should not be faulted. His overall lack of consistency in his usage of his tools is what is the massive concern. He does bring controlled aggression but aggression by itself isn't going to account for much when playing as an Offensive Tackle.

I didn't have him ranked in the First Round overall. For me, this pick was a reach. That said, his potential and ceiling are abnormally high and could pay off in the long run.

    I give this pick a solid B.

I had never heard of him before the Senior Bowl practices. When I watched the 1 vs 1’s, he looked like he was on an entirely different level from any other T there. Watching him vs. Texas Tech, he was not perfect, but was easily better than Utah’s first round tackles. If he can play the way he’s played in 2025 with technique issues to clean up, how good will he be if he gets good NFL coaching? I like the pick. Frankly, he’s probably better right now than any of our tackles not named Troy, even with his rawness.

The first thing I look at when trying to evaluate a NFL offensive tackle prospect is his feet. Max has quick feet for such a big man. His upper body looks a little thin for an OT, nothing more time in the weight room couldn't cure. If I had to guess, Max will be a borderline Pro-Bowl level OT for the next 8 or 9 years.

Consistency comes with reps and experience. He'll get both with the Steelers. Gotta keep our fingers crossed that the coaching will be there for him. Last season it would have been scary to think about. This season who knows.

Barring injury they don't need him Day 1, but it would be nice to see him on the field in stints later in the season.

I was listening to him just after the pick. My first thought was this guy is an idiot. Thank god we didnt draft him

    I mean...

I had the likes of Carnell Tate, K.C. Concepcion, Omar Cooper, Germie Bernard and even Jordyn Tyson above Makai Lemon. Makai cannot consistently defeat press at the LOS. The NFL and the B1G Football Conference are not the same.

A major component of being a successful NFL WR is defeating your opponent at the LOS. No one is doubting the route running, ball skills, hands, separation during the route, body control or even contact balance. The issue is the lack of acceleration; something magnified worse by him being only 5'11. The NFL has gotten much bigger and taller with the new admiration of these Big Slot CBs along with teams primarily playing 5 DBs. For that reason, Lemon profiles best as a Slot WR and Slot WR only.

The aforementioned I have stated have either superior athleticism, superior strength, superior physical traits, some of the above or all of the above.

I personally couldn't care less how a player speaks. If he wants to sound like he is unintelligent, he is only dooming his future prospects for life after football unless he is either very savvy, very opinionated, possesses tremendous social skills or all of the above. What matters to me is how a prospect plays.

    For me, Makai Lemon didn't do enough for me to warrant him a First Round Selection. Truth be told, I had Max Iheanachor rated higher than him; by five spots. Of the two, Max possesses the greater talent, potential and ceiling. Given how both Wide Receiver and Offensive Tackle are traits heavy positions, that means a lot. Better yet;

    That difference matters.

This is what originally opened my eyes to this kid before the draft. I'm not a daily listener to him, but every time I've heard him for at least the last month he was all over him. It almost became a running joke, but he loves this kid and has shared his thinking on him for a while.

I actually think the guy is on something. There seems to be two sides to him, he talks normal one on one or small groups but when its in front of many people he acts like he did at the draft and combine. Maybe it’s anxiety and he takes something to get him through it or maybe hes just an oddball.

I agree. Magazines had him as a 2nd/3rd rounder.
I’m starting to believe the story that the Steelers choked when lemon was taken and the Steelers reached.

You realize those rankings arent worth the paper they’re printed on right? Teams have been scouting these players for years. The people that write those articles and the talking heads havent

There were rumors that he was high, but that's all they are. I certainly wasn't impressed, either. The whole phone thing was embarrassing, but I'm much happier with Bernard in the second round than I would have been with Lemon in the first. I just think it should have been Thieneman and Bernard with the tackle help coming later.
